  • Appledore Book Festival Author Visits

    Fri 29 Sep 2023 Kymble

On Wednesday we had 3 Authors talk to school at part of the Appledore Book Festival School's Week. Year 4, 5 and 6 talked to Tom Palmer via a video link and were very keen to ask him lots of question about his books, mostly about football, running and history. They then meet Gill Lewis in the school hall. Gill talked to us about her new book (Moonflight), acted out a scene from it and got us all singing a sea shanty! Year 2 and 3 then had a session with Gill, hearing abut Willow Wildthing and Gill did an amazing job of answering all the question. Reception and Year 1 listened to the story of Betty Binoculars with Author Suzie Laverty and then made their own magical binoculars.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Appledore School's Week for very kindly buying every child in school a book by our visiting Author's. Thank you and Happy Reading everyone!

  • London Residential all Photos

Sun 09 Jul 2023 Elliot Lewis

Hello everybody, I hope everybody has reached some sort of recovery by now after a very long week in our nation's capital.

We travelled all over London doing some absolutely wonderful things, some days leaving the Hostel at 8am, getting back as late as midnight, then getting up and doing it all over again the next day!

The children worked very hard throughout the week to keep the pace of what was an immense trip, I hope the photos that were shared over the 4 days and all the ones here you may not have seen reflect what an incredible time we all had, staff and children.

We are very proud of the children, their attitude and efforts all week were brilliant to be around and a pleasure to go away with. Throughout the week we were told by strangers, police officers, staff from the places we visited and underground attendants what wonderful, well mannered children they are. They are a credit to our school and you all as parents.

We have run into a little bit of traffic along the way, looking at closer to 12:20-12:30 arrival time. See you soon.

A quick tea stop and the last photo of the day.

We’re on time for a midnight return.

If this changes much we’ll post again.

A great day on the rides.

We’re just about to head back to the buses.

We’ll be stopping for tea in an hour or two and we’ll post a “get back” time then.

We’ve arrived at Thorpe Park and it’s not even eleven - the easiest drive out of London ever.

Safely back at the buses and loading.

    Breakfast again !!!

We’re about twenty minutes from leaving for Thorpe Park.

    We’re inside Parliament.

    Photos not really allowed.

    Tue 04 Jul 2023 Richard

It’s very nearly midnight and we’ve just got back to the hostel after a very long day out and about.

    Everyone is safe and well.

The children have been brilliant and as you can imagine they are pretty tired.

I suspect they’ll all be asleep very quickly - I certainly hope so !!!

    River Trip.

    Tea.

    Bowling.

    We’re still keeping busy.

We’ve had a great afternoon at the Tower - Crown Jewels and everything else too.

We’re now waiting for a river boat which will take us on the first keg of our journey to ten- pin-bowling and tea.

Everyone is having a brilliant time.

We’ve rushed across London and we’re just about to go into the Tower.

How can it be lunchtime already?

We’ve reached the Natural History Museum and we’re obviously doing the dinosaurs first.

… and now we’re on the move !

We’ve had a very quiet night which is good.

Here we are at breakfast - full of energy and ready for an action packed day !!!

  • Year Five Residential Day Five

Fri 23 Jun 2023 Elliot Lewis

    Good morning!!

We are well on the road, cases loaded and the children all excited for the rides ahead. Will try and upload photos throughout the day as WiFi at Alton Towers is usually pretty good.

Will keep updated later on this evening with regards to ETA to be home, as it stands there is no reason for a delay but of course things can change throughout the day.

    See you all later!

    Afternoon update

We have just finished riding our first ride of the day, the river rapids, our journey was delayed significantly as the third bus in our convoy, the one with 8 boys, Sarah, myself and the cases was crashed into. The children are all absolutely fine, nobody was hurt or affected by the crash, the cases didn't move and the damage to the bus is minimal.

As you can see by the below queue times we have appeared to have arrived at Alton Towers busiest day in History, despite this the children are in brilliant spirits, the sun is shining and we are all excited for our next ride.

    Good evening everybody.

We have left Alton Towers in good time, everybody has had a great day and we managed to get on a fair amount of rides considering our limited time and queues to battle.

I will keep you updated with regards to timings, as it stands there are no concerns.

Have just left Sedgemoor services ETA 12:15am as it stands, fingers crossed that will be our final arrival time! See you soon!

    Sleep well, we certainly will!
