Class Six 2021-2022

Easter Homework, Thursday 7th April:

The children were given a long writing task about three weeks ago and this is due in durng the week after the Easter Break.

They need to complete, analyse and improve three writing tasks which have been worked on in school.
A final draft which is good enough for their writing portfolios needs to be completed.

You can download a writing criteria document which will help decide what needs to be worked on, to improve a piece of writing, below. We've used these lots of times in school and the children should understand them.

Please make sure that at least one piece of writing is handwritten (I'd go for the shortest piece myself).

The tasks are:

  • A story based on someone being alienated from a group.
  • A report based on people's different views of homeless people.
  • A piece of writing which has been chosen from their English Book.

In addition to this they will need to complete:

  • Maths Paper 1, 2017
  • Maths Paper 2, 2017
  • Grammar Paper, 2017

These don't need to be completed against the clock or under test conditions.

If anyone needs any help please email.

Wednesday 30th March

We've still got a few covid cases in Year Six this week.
These are some of the things we've been doing in case your child is well enough for some work.

  • A Maths Test - which doesn't have to be doen as a test.
  • A Reading Test - which doesn't have to be done as a test either.
  • An extract from Stone Cold where Link talks about what it's like being homeless. The various issues that he talks about need to be high-lighted so that they can inform this weeks writing task.
  • You can download the task below.
  • An inroduction to Algebra Sheet - which is basically a code breaking exercise.

Friday 25th March

Here are a couple of test papers that need to be done over the next week if your child has been off this week.
The children who have been in school will have done one of them in school.
They don't need to be done as tests or against the clock.

COVID Raises it's Head Again - Monday 14th March

As you know COVID has raised it's nasty little head in school again this week, although I'm happy to say that we've only got a couple of children off in Year Six.

It your "loved one" is well enough and would like something to occupy themselves as they isolate here it is:

  • Maths - lots of lovely Fraction Sheets which is just what you, as a parent, wants during a pandemic.
It's what we're doing in school at the moment so it's worth a go.
There are several videos in our Video Resource Centre to support the sheets so it might not be quite the nightmare you'd think it is.
  • The joy of SATs is just around the corner so here is a reading test to have a stab at.
I don't think you need to worry too much about the time limit - think more about the detail of the answers.
  • Our English work os based on the book we're studying and one of the things we're doing this week is thinking about fact, opinion and bias.
The sheet that is here is based on attitudes towards homeless people like thee one in the story.
A "solcredulist" is a made up word which refers to people whp believe everything they read in the newspapers rather than thinking critically about the things they read - which is a really importnat skill.
This is going to be a difficult task out of school but here it is .....

Thursday 17th March

We've got eight off today - which is the highest absence we've had in Year Six this week.

Here are a couple of things we're up to inschool - just in case anyone is board and feeling well enough to do a bit of work !!!

  • If you want to introduce some torture here's a spelling test.
I'd do it once and check the words that are wrong - and then do it again having worked on the errors.
  • We've been working on a long stroy about Alienation this week and writing in the style of writing that Link uses in our current story. The style is direct and relaxed - the way someone might speak or write in a diary.
There's a sheet below which might help.
  • There's also a sheet whoch will help analyse the writing when you've done it so that a second, and improved, version can be written.
  • You can download an arithmetic test below which doesn't have to be done as a test.
I'd have a go at this even if you don't end up doing anything else.

Maths Homework - Due on Monday 28th February

You need to complete the sheet of calculations below during the half term break.  We have been studying these methods in class, and if you need a quick reminder of any of the steps you can look at the video which covers each of the four methods.   If you are unsure of anything you can email us on class6@bradworthy.devon.sch.uk, and we will hopefully be able to help.  We will be marking and reviewing these calculations in class on Monday 28th February so please bring them in!

Half Term Homework - Friday 18th February

We have set three pieces of homework this half term.
Your work will be due in by the end of the first week after half term on Friday 4th March.

  • A long writing task based on Macbeth and his second meeting with the witches,
This has been started in school and the children should have photocopied, and brought home, what they have done so far.
This piece of writing can be hand written or typed.
You can download the worksheet here.

  • Science homework based on Mass.
The children have started this in school this week.
There is a video in our Video Resource Centre which will help the chidren complete this task.
If you need to download the work booklet it is available here.

  • Maths homewok which has been set by Mrs Turner, which can be accessed above, and which is due on Monday 28th February.

If your child needs any support with any of the above please feel free to email us.

Homework - Friday 11th February

There are two tasks this week:

  • A short science task which involves finding out what an atom is along with the names of ten common atoms.

  • A longer maths task which involves constructing the following shapes, as we've done in school:

A triangle, a square, a hexagon and an octogon (if a challenge is wanted a dodecagon could aslo be drawn).
The area of these shapes needs to be found and plotted on a graph as explained in school.

There needs to be a written explanation of what is going on, and waht is being found out, at each stage in the hope that this task could be put in writing portfolios as an example of language use in another subject.

Friday 28th January

This week's homework is based on the trip to Bideford that we took part in today.
The children should have a "research sheet" (if not it can be downloaded here) for them to gather information about Bideford and North Devon at different periods of time.
This can be done by:

  • Speaking to each other and comparing notes from the trip.
  • Using the internet, either at home or in school.
  • Using the local history books that we have in school.

The research needs to be completed by Friday 4th February.

The children should also have completed three science tasks by the end of next week.

Half Term Homework - October 2021

You have a writing task to complete over the half term break - this is the task which you have talked about in class!

Spelling homework involves your danger word lists (these are your own personal lists to practice).  We will start testing you on these words during the week of 15th November.

You also have leagues to compete in on EdShed - three assignments and leagues are in place.   Try to do short bursts of practice regularly to help you remember the words you are working with.     There is a link to an online version of Kaboom below so that you can use the game to practice any words on your lists.

Your homework task over this weekend is to find or create an image based on the sea.   This is going to be used in our English work, so it cannot contain any land or other objects.  It can be a stormy sea, or a calm sea - the choice is yours!  You can either find an image online to share, or draw/paint/create something of your own.  If you can print these to bring in then you are welcome to do so, but you can also email the picture to class6@bradworthy.devon.sch.uk, and we can print them in school.  These need to be in school on Monday morning ready for our English lesson.
