Bradworthy Primary Academy
PSHE / RSE
This page provides information and represents out consultation in relation to this important area of our work.
The DfE says that this is an important and necessary part of a child's education and this is supported by the PSHE Association who state that this gives children the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves health and safe and to prepare them for life nd work in our modern British society.
From September 2024 we will intend to follow a new scheme of work.
P - personal
S - social
H - health
E - economic
R - relationship
S - sex
E - education
The child and social work act (2017) requires that all primary schools teach relationship and health education.
This has been compulsory since September 2020.
From September 2024 we will be adapting and changing our approach; and introducing a new curriculum which is the reason why we are once again consulting you as we are require to do.
This aspect of our work is of huge importance because it is an increasingly established fact that children who are emotionally healthy develop in a much more positive and effective way. If we support children's wellbeing and tackle issue which have the potential to disrupt their development, such as those which create anxiety and which create unhealthy relationships, we will maximize their potential.
Additionally this aspect of our work helps children to develop skills and aptitudes, like teamwork, communication and resilience, which are so crucial to an individual as they navigate the demands and challenges of the modern World, and which are increasingly valued by employers.
To put things simply we believe that we should be preparing children for life and not simply getting to the point where they can pass exams.
Parents are not permitted to withdraw their children from any aspect of our PSHE / RSE curriculum (which includes teaching relating to the changing adolescent body and puberty)
Whilst Sex Education is not statutory we do cover aspects of this with our older children in Year Six; where our science curriculum covers conception and child development.
