The rain clouds cleared and the sun came pout for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon (2nd December) and we had an amazing time playing our inter-house football finals.
Our children came out in their "bubbles" and we even invited some socially distant parents into school to watch - for the first time in nearly nine months!
Our Year Three / Four final was between Herons and Puffins and it was a really close match. Both teams lead during the match with a last minute goal, scored from about 20 meters by George in Year Four, meaning a 2 - 2 full time score and extra time.
The extra period didn't separate the teams and we ended up with a penalty shoot out - very exciting but also the worst way to decide a match I think.
After a "best of three" shoot out they were still level and it wasn't until we reached sudden death that Amelia (in Year Four) slotted a shot home for Herons to win 2 - 1.
There's was no doubting the competitive nature of the Year Five / Six final.
Both teams were fully committed with tackles flying in throughout the match.
By half time Herons were in convincing 3 - 0 lead, however Magpies fought back after the break to reach 3 - 2 with only a few minutes to go.
Three amazing goal line clearances from Theo in Year Six kept Herons in front. With time running out and with Magpies pushing forward Herons broke twice.
Goals from Theo, who swapped his defensive duties for attack and Charlie (Year Six) with the last kick of the game brought the final score to 5 -2 and gave victory to Herons, although it's got to be said the match was closer than a three goal margin.
Wouldn't it be great if we could get to the point where we can get out and play some other schools after Christmas!
