For the first time ever we qualified for the Devon Hockey Finals this year. They took place at Exeter University and it was an amazing opportunity for our children.
The standard of the competition was really high but our children rose incredibly to the occasion to the point where they won all five of their group matches to reach a semi-final which we won 7 – 0 against Umberleigh School who had qualified from North Devon.
This meant we had reached the Devon Hockey Final for the first time.
The final was played against Trinity School from South Devon and it was an incredibly tight match, full of ups and downs and tension, and in the end I’m sorry to say that we lost 3 – 2, conceding a goal to just about the last shot of the match, and having lead 2 -1 at one point.
The children’s initial reaction was disappointment, to say the least, however they soon gathered themselves (as you can see in the photo) and the fact is that if anyone had said we’d have ended up as runners up in Devon when we started working with the children last October we’d have probably laughed.
