On Thursday 16th of November we travelled down to Exeter to take part in a 11 team round robin to qualify for the County Finals in January.
Coming up against some of the best and biggest schools in Devon, mainly Exeter based schools, we more than held our own, registering five wins, three losses and two draws, our games ended with us in a fourth place finish, top eight qualify for the finals so we finished comfortably, a strong finish to the day with three wins in a row in the afternoon solidified the event.
I am really proud of the team and their efforts, everybody played really well throughout the day, a special mention to Zachary, Ryan, Edward and Robert who up until now hadn't played for the school team but fully deserved to be in the team and played excellently against a very high standard.
We are really looking forward to returning in January for the next round, well done guys!
Our after school Textiles club have been learning about 'wet felting'. We rolled the felt into balls, using lots of warm, soapy water. Then we added sewn details turning the balls into fabulous pumpkins. Finally we decorated with felt stalks, leaves, faces and a few googly eyes. All finished just in time for Halloween. 🎃
On Wednesday we had 3 Authors talk to school at part of the Appledore Book Festival School's Week. Year 4, 5 and 6 talked to Tom Palmer via a video link and were very keen to ask him lots of question about his books, mostly about football, running and history. They then meet Gill Lewis in the school hall. Gill talked to us about her new book (Moonflight), acted out a scene from it and got us all singing a sea shanty! Year 2 and 3 then had a session with Gill, hearing abut Willow Wildthing and Gill did an amazing job of answering all the question. Reception and Year 1 listened to the story of Betty Binoculars with Author Suzie Laverty and then made their own magical binoculars.
We would like to say a massive thank you to Appledore School's Week for very kindly buying every child in school a book by our visiting Author's. Thank you and Happy Reading everyone!
After an uncertain start weather wise, we were delighted that the KS1 sports day was able to go ahead. The children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a fabulous morning, showing determination and resilience while competing, and enthusiastic support for their peers. We were also well supported by the children's family and friends and of course our fabulous PTA.
