Chinese new year
中國農曆新年
Sunday February, the tenth 2013, year of the water snake,
another Chinese year comes our way
星期日二月第十2013年蛇年另一位中國今年來的方式
We spent the Friday before New Year celebrating in school and everyone had a great time.
The photos show Chinese cooking, Chinese writing, dragon making, lanterns, children dressed in traditional clothes and traditional dragon dancing to the rhythm of drums.
We had a great time and learned a lot.
We took over twenty children over to Bude last Friday where they took place in a cross country running event on Summerleaze Down.
School's and Colleges from across the South West were present so the standard was very high.
Our best placed runners were Maddy (10th in the under nine girl's race) and Josh (12th in the under eleven boy's race), however most of our runners finished in the top fifty which is a great achievement.
The races were very challenging but we had a great time.
On Friday 1st February Class 4 visited the Burton Art Gallery and Museum.
This term, as part of our topic, we have been investigating treasure,
what it means to different societies and how people learn from such historical artefacts.
We have been learning that Archaeology is the study of the past through material remains.
In the morning we spent our time building an historical picture of Bideford, using the artefacts from the museum. In the afternoon, we enjoyed the art exhibition on display, discussing our likes and dislikes, as well as sketching our favourite artwork.
On the 22nd of January the swimming team from Class 6 entered the Holsworthy swimming Gala. The teams who were involved were Bradworthy, Bradford, Clawton, Holsworthy and Ashwater.
The swimming team won all of their races except one, in which they came 2nd. The races involved a mixture of fun and serious events, the sizes varying from 6 To 24 children in each race. This year the swimming team won whole competition. This is a massive achievement as last year the team came second.
We really hope that we will do well again next year and come back with our heads held high.
