  • World Book Day

    Sat 30 Apr 2022 Richard

We haven't bothered with a World Book Day this year !

Instead we've gone for a World Book Month !!
Kymble is our librarian and her job is to make reading as enjoyable as possible for everyone in our school. She always does a great job and this last month is no exception.

We've been competing in our Houses to find out who is the most enthusiastic group of readers. We've been recording "home-reads" to earn stickers and prizes - and most importantly to rack-up points for our teams.

The winner was announced at our World Book Day Quiz, when the whole school gathered to test our knowledge of books .....

..... and the winning team was Herons !

Our Book Day Quiz was great fun.

Our Class qualifiers from Year Three to Six represented their houses but everyone was involved.

In fact we gave out nearly fifty Easter Egg Prizes to children from across the school.

The winning team was Puffins !

    What a great day.

    Thank you Kymble !!!

  • Year Five's Paignton Zoo, Bowling and Sleepover Experience

    Fri 29 Apr 2022 Richard

On the last day of the Spring term, Class 5 spent the day at Paignton Zoo, bowling and sleeping overnight in school - I’ll let them tell you the rest!

Our day at Paignton Zoo was very fun. As soon as we got there, I was buzzing with excitement. Before we even went inside, we saw some flamingos. Their enclosure was massive! There were two mini islands and the rest was water. The class got to stay in an Education place but we were seeing the animals mostly. There were a variety of different animals from giraffes to lions and tigers. There was even an insect place, which was very weird, and red pandas!

Harlow especially loved the reptile house. When we entered, it was boiling! Some of us were a bit scared for there were crocodiles with their teeth sticking out, lurking under the bridge.

One of our favourite animals were the lemurs because they were leaning back trying to warm their tummies by the sun (which looked like meditating). When we were outside at the Education Centre, the peacock was holding his feathers up and it looked beautiful. We also thought the cheetah was cool since it walked right up beside the window where I was!

After spending the day at the zoo, we all travelled to Torquay for a game of bowling and some food! There were many strikes and spares and cheering each other on, resulting in some really impressive scores.

At the end of a very long day, we drove back to school to set up our beds for the night in the school hall!
We played a few games, had hot chocolate and cookies before beginning to settle down for the night. Thankfully, everyone managed to get some rest before waking up for breakfast on Saturday morning.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a wonderful time, despite being a little tired after a jam-packed day!

  • Year Four - At War !!!

    Thu 28 Apr 2022 Richard

Year Four have been learning about World War One this half term which has involved a range of exciting things such as studying the book War Horse.

The best part of this topic is the "War Museum" that we set up and present - it's all about the things that members of our families have done in our past to defend our country and our way of life.

It's all about people who we want to remember and who we are so proud of.

On the afternoon of our museum the children in Year Four welcomed children from across the school and loads of parents who came in to share this brilliant event.

The big day is Thursday 7th April - check this website later in the week to find out what we get up to …..

  • Under Eleven Football v. Stratton

    Sat 02 Apr 2022 Richard

    Fantastic Football

It was a really good game against Stratton; it was really intense.
Stratton were a decent side - same standard as us. We had over 10 shots but we just couldn't get the ball in the net. I, Blake, put in loads of good crosses to Toby but he just couldn't get his head on the ball - or his foot

Our best chance was when I hit the post from a corner and when it bounced out to a Stratton player, he kicked , it nearly went in to the goal line and I tried again but I scuffed it the shot and the danger was over-Stratton were lucky!

Ten minutes later Toby passed it to me and I had a shot and it skimmed the bar and that was our last good chance.

The reason Stratton didn't score was because of our magnificent goalkeeper George - he was great, or even better!

The final score was nil – nil.

We can't wait to play them again and beat them this time …..

  • Magnificent Macbeth

    Sat 02 Apr 2022 Richard

    MAGNIFICENT MACBETH !!!!!!!!!!

A dark night and three witches meet once again .

Where will they meet? in thunder , lightning or rain .On the heath .There to meet Macbeth.

This is the terrifying , dramatic start of William Shakespeare’s most famous play.

Class 6 had been working on Macbeth for a few weeks with Sir. When we’d finished the story we went to watch Macbeth at the Plough Theatre in Torrington and it was outstanding. There were only 3 actors (All Woman!) and they did all the different parts. Keith (The Bell Man) was in the audience and he

    helped out.

The style wasn't anything like what we had been learning in school. Every one in the hole class had been wondering what it was going to be like as it was going to be a comedy.

There were three female actors and the were amazing; the thing that probably amazed a lot of people most was when one of the actors, or even two of them, had to be two characters at the same time. They would use a bar to hang the costume on so when they went into a different character they could still have the other character in the scene.

Bear in mind that they had to change characters really quickly – it was very clever.

The play was very funny and enjoyable especially when Macbeth was doing his speech and the other two were playing a Clarinet and Fiddle and she got cross because they were ruining the big speech.

When Lady Macbeth had blood on her hands she used sanitiser to try and get it off!

They also used a bike-powered background. They had to peddle the bike to change the scenery.

The play was Magnificent. Everyone loved it, even our teachers.
The actors were called The Handlebars and I would rate them Five Stars . It was AMAZING !!!!!
