  • Halloween Disco

    Tue 31 Oct 2017

At the end of the half term we were lucky enough to have a Halloween Disco, organised by our PTA.  Everyone enjoyed dancing the night away, and playing some ghoulish games!  We must say an enormous thank you to our very hard working PTA for organising the event, and to all of the volunteers who helped before, during and after the disco!

  • Gliddon and Squire Race 2: Shebbear

    Mon 30 Oct 2017
Our Cross Country team recently had an incredibly busy patch of races, the first of which was the next race in the Gliddon and Squire Cross Country League.  We saw some fantastic individual races during the morning, along with some wonderful team running.  We are building points in each of our teams, and will be looking to continue in this good form in November!
  • Macmillan Bake Off & Coffee Morning

    Mon 16 Oct 2017

    Macmillan Coffee Morning

On Friday 13th October we held a coffee morning and ‘Bake Off’ competition in school, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Research.   Everyone had the opportunity to enter cakes and sweet treats into a range of categories, with the entries, and other donated cakes, being sold in a cake sale and coffee morning to help raise money.  The donations were absolutely amazing this year, and we would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who baked a cake or made a donation to our coffee morning, with a special thanks to Teena Cann for organising the event.

The winners of each class were:

Best Citrus Cake – Alexander Girdler

Best Chocolate Cake – Thomas Polhill

Best Free-From Cake – Minnie Downing

    Best Biscuits – Alissia Davis

Best Fruit & Veg Cake – Lily Gardner

    Best Showstopper – Erin Jowett

Star Baker 2017 – Brooke Blake

The judges were blown away by every entry that was received, and found the judging process to be very difficult – although very tasty!

Our final fundraising total was a whopping £376.80, and we would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone for such wonderful generosity!

  • Bikeability

    Fri 13 Oct 2017

The children in Years Five and Six have spent the last two weeks of the half term working with our wonderful Bikeability instructors Tom and Ian.  Everyone has been having a great time developing our cycling skills and gathering experience and qualifications.  Millie and Stanley from Year Five have written the report below to explain what the children have been learning!

    Bikeability

Bikeability is where you learn how to ride a bike using the right skills. In bikeability you learn to ride a bike sensibly on a road while staying safe and having fun.

Ian and Tom, our instructors, taught us how to check if our bikes are in good condition and safe to ride. You need to have two brakes on either side of the handlebars so if you go down a hill you won't crash.

We started off in the playground where we learnt how to brake and to signal to cars behind us. When we were on the road we were learning how to do the life saver, safe stop, safe start and an emergency stop.

In year 4 everyone passed their level one and we hope this year we all will pass our level two as well.

We would all like to thank Ian and Tom for helping us with bikeability and we are all looking forward to seeing them next year and completing level three.

  • Year Five at Poundstock

    Mon 09 Oct 2017

This week Class Five visited the Gildhouse at Poundstock to take part in a Tudor Day as part of our Tudor Topic.  During the morning of our trip we were dressed as poor Tudors and we spent the morning baking bread, brewing ginger beer and making cob blocks - all using traditional Tudor techniques.  During the afternoon we were able to dress as rich Tudors, and we went on a Tudor 'promenade' before we played games that wealthy Tudors would have played.

We all had a fantastic day, and gained a huge amount of knowledge and information which we can use to develop our topic studies.  We would like to say an enormous thank you to all of the volunteers at the Gildhouse in Poundstock, who gave us such a fantastic experience!

  • Gliddon and Squire Race 1: Kingsley School

    Fri 06 Oct 2017

The first race of the Gliddon and Squire Cross Country series took place on Sunday 24th September, at Kingsley School in Bideford.  It was fantastic to see 29 runners representing the school, and everyone raced brilliantly today.  We had some top class results, with Eleanor winning her U9 Girl’s race, and Saul coming 3rd in the U11 Boys.   Success in this competition relies on strong running from the entire team, and after the first race our teams already hold impressive positions, as you can see below!

    Team Positions Following Race 1:

    Under 9 Girls:  4th

    Under 9 Boys:  1st

    Under 11 Girls:  6th

    Under 11 Boys:  3rd

  • M & M Theatres - A Little Princess

    Mon 02 Oct 2017

This week we were visited by the wonderful team from M&M Theatres who put on a brilliant show for all of our pupils.  This year they performed ‘A Little Princess’, a play they have written and developed themselves.  All of our children enjoyed the show very much, and our Year Five pupils were also lucky enough to take part in a workshop after the performance where the learnt all about how the show was produced.  We are already looking forward to seeing M&M Theatres again next year!
