  • Football away at Torrington

Thu 17 Nov 2022 Elliot Lewis

On the 11th of November two teams from years 5 and 6 travelled away to Great Torrington to play two football fixtures against Bluecoats Primary.

The games were played side by side, one boys fixture, one girls. Sir took the boys for the first half, I took the girls.

The boys played very well and grew into the game after a strong start from Bluecoats, the half finished 2-1 to our boys.

On the girls side the performance was brilliant, the half finished 4-0 to our girls, they held an excellent shape, pressed the ball with energy and enthusiasm and got some powerful strikes away to go in strong leaders at half time.

After swapping I saw the boys pull through an intense half, our passing game on a tight pitch was strong with some of the ball control from the forwards some of the best I have ever seen. Unfortunately for us Bluecoats had a very good goalkeeper who made some top notch saves, meaning we didn't add to our tally from the first half.

We closed the game out with a brilliant defensive display, George Stephens in goal was very strong claiming most of the balls that came his way through the air, coming out of goal to close down their forwards when necessary and making some brilliant saves as well.

The highlight of the match was Callum Hookway, Bluecoats managed to get the ball over George in goal, which is not easy, Callum raced through and acrobatically cleared the ball off of the line to save us from conceding and ultimately winning the game as the score remained 2-1 to Bradworthy until the end.

The second half of the girls game was just as successful as the first, scoring another four goals and only conceding one to result in an emphatic win. The girls rotated off and on in various positions, controlling the game through the middle and creating lots of goal scoring chances with intense pressure on the Bluecoats goal.

This was our first all girls fixture of the season I was delighted by how they performed and the girls thoroughly enjoyed it, hopefully there will be more to come soon.

  • Girls Tag Rugby Tournament

Thu 17 Nov 2022 Elliot Lewis

On the 8th of November we travelled to Bideford Rugby Club to take part in an all girls Tag Rugby Tournament.

This was our first Tag Rugby event as a school for several years, a sport that was very active prior to the Pandemic that hasn't really picked up since.

The girls did very well, winning all three of their group games comfortably, followed by a fantastic display in the semi final to book their place in the final.

The final was fought against hosts of the tournament St Marys, the girls played brilliantly but were incredibly unlucky to lose 5-4.

Winning runners up meant the girls received medals for their efforts, all of which were very pleased, I personally was very proud of their performance and thought they were very hard done by in the final.

  • Football at Hartland

    Thu 17 Nov 2022

On the third of November two football teams from years 5 and 6 travelled away to Hartland on an incredibly wet afternoon to play some matches.

The first match was a very tight affair, we created some excellent chances but we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net, Hartland broke from our corner to score a very fortunate goal for them, the ball hitting the post and bouncing back into the net off of our Keeper's back which he could do absolutely nothing about.

The conditions meant our usually impressive passing game couldn't quite click and unfortunately for us the score ended 1-0 to Hartland.

The second fixture was more successful for us, the team played very well, scoring 3 goals, winning the match 3-1. Maxi Webster scored two excellent strikes from long distance, the third goal was scored by Isabel Arnot, she picked the ball up in the middle of the field, played Rory Edwards through on goal, Rory I will add played a brilliant game of Football, he rounded the goalkeeper then unselfishly squared the ball for Isabel to tap in the finish. A fantastic team performance.
