  • Princess Anne 2015

    Mon 30 Nov 2015

Everybody was nervous and excited when we climbed in the cars and minibuses to go to Holsworthy market. Princess Anne was visiting to declare it open.

When we arrived, we sat on the bench, trailer or straw bales that had been laid out for us to perform on. The cadettes and Holsworthy town band were also performing, and we can easily say all three performances were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience and employees.

We were singing 'Sing' which is in the second set of songs when princess Anne flew over us in her helicopter, and about fifteen minutes later arrived in her car.

She walked down the red carpet and everybody was honoured to be able to be there, perform for her or show her the market itself.

Sir asked Ruby and Ryan W to come over, but we didn`t realise why. He explained that we were going over with a bouquet of flowers to give to the princess. We were delighted that we could meet the Queen's daughter!

We were getting nervous (and squashed!) by the amount of photographers crowded around us, trying to get a photo of the princess herself, and the employees. We were both nervous and excited when we saw Princess Anne approached. She was very elegant and we couldn't wait to meet her!

Princess Anne pulled open two red velvet curtains and there was a beautiful plaque which read," Holsworthy livestock market opened by HRH Princess royal on the 19th October 2015."

We both handed the bouquets to the Princess and she took them gratefully. She asked us which school we attended and we replied," Bradworthy Primary ma`am."

She also asked us," Do you come here often?"

Ryan's response was," my mum works here ma`am." And Ruby's response was," My grandfather farms in a local village so we visit occasionally."

She thanked us and walked back up the red carpet an back to her car.

When we played 'Plough to the end of the row', she gave the school a little wave, and about fifteen minutes later, we saw her flying above the grounds in her helicopter.

James Morrish, one of the main people involved in the project of building the new market, told us, " he was very pleased with our performances. One of the employees will deliver a little present as a thank you." Unfortunately, The princess was a little late to the market so it was a bit hectic when she was leaving. Lady Arran also said," Princess Anne asked her to pass on the message to us that she really enjoyed the performance and could hear it all around the market!"

Everybody will remember this event for the rest of their lives. Thank you to Sir, Mrs Turner and Alex for the music rehearsals, music recording and pushing us to our limits so we could sing and play our very best.

Also, we would like to thank the parents for their help with transportation. Without the amount of help, this event wouldn't have been possible.

Thank you to Kivell`s livestock market for inviting us, we are honoured and hope you enjoyed our performances.

  • Children in Need 2015

    Fri 20 Nov 2015

On Friday 13th November we had a non-school uniform day to raise as much money as we could for children in need.

‘Children in need’ is a charity to help children all over the world who don’t have clean water or the facilities that we have and for children with disabilities.

When we came into school on Friday we wore our own clothes and every body in the school paid £1.00 for a good cause.

On Friday morning we also had a ‘home made book sale’ organised by children year three and four.

The following people who ran it where, Mathew, Riley, Jack, Vinnie, Josh, Charlotte, Isaac, Rebecca, Oscar, Niall, Rory, Lonny, Maya, Millie, Cory, AJ, Harriet, Luke, and Lana. These people either made books or sold them.

The books that they sold were amazing, we paid 20p for a small book, 50p for a medium book, and £1 for a large book .They were either, stories, word searches or colouring books.

The money we raised all went to children in need.

Friday was a fabulous day and we raised about £210 for children in need.

Thank you to everyone who contributed.

  • Remembrance 2015

    Sun 15 Nov 2015

On the 11th November all of our classes went down to the cross in the square to show our respect for the soldiers who have fought in wars.

When we arrived we stood by the cross and while Ruby was warming up Sir sad a few words. We read out the names of the people on the cross.

Then Ruby faced to the East and played the Last Post and after this we stood in silence for two minutes. We all thought about the soldiers that have fought in wars for us and died for us.

After our silence Sir read a poem titled “We Remember Them”; he read out the verse and we all replied “We Remember Them” at the end of each line.

At the end Reverend Richard said a prayer.

We remember the soldiers on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of he eleventh month every year because this is the time that the First World War finished.

We think it is important to remember because this might stop wars happening again.

  • Hockey at Shebbear

    Tue 10 Nov 2015

Twelve people from Class Six were selected for a hockey match and shared training session with Shebbear College last week.

Before all of the energy of the match we did some training with Alan Muller, who coaches Shebbear and plays for the England over 65’s Hockey Team. Some of us know him from Bude, but he was a new face to others.

We practiced turning and dodging and a couple of us got picked for demonstrations. It was hard work but it was enjoyed by all.

We were split into mixed groups to play our matches. For some of us it was our first ever match but once we found our feet we went on to score some good goals and save some too.

It was fun because we were mixed together from both schools and this meant we had to work together like a proper team.

Finally, when we were on the minibus back to school we were buzzing with excitement. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon thoroughly and we are noe looking forward to future matches and tournaments.

  • Hartland Beach Trip

    Fri 06 Nov 2015

We parked the minibuses on the cliff and walked down to the village. Mr Sentance and Sir had given some of our class cameras and binoculars so we could take pictures of the rocks and caves and examine them.

The binoculars were for spotting birds and looking at the rocks.

We walked along the beach and sat on the pebbles by a cave so Sir could talk to us about how the cave was made and the layers of rock. We talked about how pebbles are bits of the cliff that have been smoothed by the sea and about how quickly the cliff is eroded – it’s about five metres every hundred years.

We looked at Bear Rock, which is a rock that looks like a bear. 200 million years ago it was flat at the bottom of the sea. It has been pushed vertical by the Earth’s plates moving.

We finished our day with a five mile walk past St’ Catherine’s Tor to Speakes Mill and then back in a big loop.

We walked through a strange valley with no river in it and looked at how it has been eroded by the sea. We had to try and work out how the valley got the way it is.

Some people think it was made by water form a melting glacier thousands of years ago.

We’ve bee working on geography in school and this trip was a great way of seeing the things we’ve been learning about.

We’re going to learn all about Dartmoor and how it was made and got the way it is this year.

  • World Cup Final

    Mon 02 Nov 2015

This year we had our first rugby World Cup in school with all of Key Stage 2 taking part in twenty teams.

The final match was Australia v. Argentina.

At half time Argentina was winning 6 – 2and most people thought that they were going to win the match. By the end of the match the score was 12 – 12 so we continued playing for an extra five minutes.

The final move went from Ruby to Adam. Adam sprinted up the line with Joe gaining on him, reaching for his tag. As Adam put the ball down Joe grabbed his tag. The game had ended but was the try given ?

Everyone went into the school hall for an assembly to see if Australia had won or if it was a draw. There was silence. Then Sir shouted Australia Won !!!

Loads of teams had entered but only won could win and it was Australia !

We played our World Cup just like the real one and everyone had a great time.

We’re looking forward to playing some matches against other school next term and to playing in tournaments in the summer.
