  • Dartmoor Challenge 2015

    Wed 30 Sep 2015

Our Biggest sporting challenge of the year in school is our Ten Tors Challenge on Dartmoor.

After a lot of training over the year this eventually ends with a two day camping and walking event which involves covering a distance of as much as twenty five miles on the North Dartmoor section of the moor.

Training started last week when our new group of Year Six students visited the moor for the first time.
Weather conditions were very different for our two groups - with everything from driving rain and strong winds to glorious Autumn sunshine !
Both groups covered over ten miles on a mixture of paths and open moors which is a pretty impressive start.

    Thu 17 Sep 2015

It has been wonderful to welcome over twenty new children to our school and Reception Class this September.
Rose and Caroline have been working really hard to settle them in and I know that they are really looking forward to working with them this year.
It has also been great to start to get to know the children's parents - the photos show them taking part in on of several "parent sessions" which Rose and Caroline have been running as part of our induction programme.

  • Forest School (Class 2 - 2015)

    Mon 14 Sep 2015
Class 2 are learning all about mapping in forest school this term. Last week we made journey sticks, and this week we followed the same route using the journey sticks to remind us where we had been. Unfortunately the rain came, but we found shelter in the woods and warmed ourselves with a delicious hot chocolate before returning to school.
  • Surfing 2015

    Sun 13 Sep 2015

We do loads of watersports in school - including things like kayaking, sailing and wake boarding.

Every Autumn Term everyone in Year Six has has a surf lesson each week, on a Friday afternoon which is a great way to end the week.
These photos show us on Crooklets beach in Bude last week where some of us started to stand up for the first time !!!

  • Hawker's Hut

    Fri 11 Sep 2015

The Rev. Hawker is a famous local vicar who preached at Morwenstow Church durng the Victorian Period. He was famous for inventing the "modern" harvest festival and for helping sailors who were shipwrecked on the shores of North Crnwall and Devon.
His hut is a short walk from the church along the cliff tops.
He used to sit in it and write poetry.

Our trip gave us the perfect opportunity to imagine what it must be like to be in a ship on stromy seas as it involved gale force winds and driving rain !!!

Having reached Hawker's Hut we headed for his church which was the perfect place to take refuge from the storm.

We had a wonderfully dramatic trip out - hopefully the next one will involve less waterproofs and much more sunshine !!

  • Gliddon and Squire Cross Country League

    Thu 10 Sep 2015

We've entered the Gliddon and Squire Cross Country League for the first time this year. The event takes place on six Sundays over the winter and is open to schools and clubs from across North Devon.
We took four teams and twenty four children to the September race which took place at Kingsley School in Bideford.

We are incredibly proud of all of our children for the effort that they put in and it's great to be able to report plenty of success:

Our under nine girls'team is in 7th place after the first race with Imogen ( who finished 15th ) our highest placed runner.

Nial and Jack finished in 19th and 20th place in the under nine boys's race to leave our team in an excellent 4th place.

Joseph fiished in 17th position and was our highest placed under eleven boy.

Our under eleven girls had a brilliant race with Amelia finishing 1st, Maddie 4th and Imogen 15th. These great results have put our team in first place after the first race.

The next event is at West Buckland School on Sunday 18th October and we're really looking forward to taking part.

  • Class 3 in the Forest

    Wed 09 Sep 2015

This week at Forest School, the children continued with some of their activities from last week. Some children continued creating their own Green Man using moss, leaves, mud and other plants. Others continued making camouflage capes out of branches and leaves to hide under later from us all! There were also groups of children collecting blackberries and making aboriginal games from branches, string, pine cones and wooden counters. A huge thank you to all the parents who transported children to and from Forest School, and to all the adults who worked with the children in the morning.
