As we all know Bradworthy primary Academy have always supported charities by holding weird and wacky fundraisers, and on Friday 21st March the children (and teachers!) celebrated Sports Relief. All the children took part in this wonderful event. Each brought in either £1 or £2. To find out more about this awesome fundraiser read on.
The first event of the day was the Mad Mile, in which all the children walked, ran, galloped, scooted, rode or sat in wheel barrows around Bradworthy. Some children did half a mile while most of the children went the whole way.
When they were doing this people in the street saw them and gave even more money.
After a break everyone got into groups of around six and played water balloon netball with the teachers. Everyone got wet, including the people who weren’t playing (naughty Mr Lewis!). It was quite unfair because the children were against taller, more experienced people, and it didn’t help that Sir always made the game start with a toss up!
Sadly the teachers won every time, but at least we had fun.
After all that Sports Relief was over (but our day of wearing non-school uniform wasn’t!) and in total we raised about £260.
Sports Relief was a great day and I’m sure it helped lots of people who need it.
Phoebe (Year Six)
We took seventy-one children over to Falcon's Gym in Barnstaple last Saturday to take part in this year's North Devon Gymnastics Competition.
Our youngest gymnasts were only five years old and our oldest eleven so it really was a whole school event. It's amazing to think that nearly half the children in our school wanted to take part and have been training for this event.
That's a huge amount of work from our children and also our gymnastics coaches, Kerry, Sarah and Michelle, who we'd really like to thank.
We had a lot of fun and a lot of success.
The main photo shows our Under Seven Boys' Team who won Gold.
Here are our medal results:
Under Seven Boys - Gold
Under Nine Girls - Silver
Under Seven Mixed A-Team - Silver
Amelia (Year Four) - Silver
Issac (Year One) - Silver
Under Eleven Girls - Bronze
Under Nine Mixed - Bronze
Under Seven Girls - Bronze
Under Seven Mixed B-Team - Bronze
On Friday 6th March, Our school celebrated World book day.The theme for the day was share a book. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Holsworthy Library they came so we could choose a book from their pop up Library.
In the morning, we all turned up in our fabulous costumes. We dressed up as our favourite characters out of a book. At break time we all did a book swap. We had to bring in a book, hand it in, then we could collect someone else’s book for free.
After break, all the classes set to work writing about a book. We did this so later in the day we could perform it in assembly. After a couple of hours of hard work, we finally had lunch. A couple of us went to lunch late in order to finish some work for our performance.
At last it was time for our performance in assembly. We all sat down in our spaces ready to watch class 1 perform. They did a lovely performance for their age. Next up was class 2, they sang a song a beautiful song as well. Someone from class 3 explained to us about what they had been learning about in class. Next she showed us a booklet full of Greek myths.
After that, it was our class next, Lydia and Eden had offered to read out a poem that they had worked on over lunch. After there brilliant performance, it was class 5’s turn. Class 5 had made amazing adventure books and class 6 told us about there favourite books and authors.
Finally, prizes were given for Fancy dress and it was time to head home. All that was left to do was tidy up and take our world book day tokens home with us. I really enjoyed the day. I hope Holsworthy Library can come again next year.
Zoe (Class 4)
On Thursday 6th March, class 4 visited forest school. We went to learn about treasure. The class were looking forward to the trip.
First, we arrived at forest school. Our group leaders told us that we would be in their group. Louise, One of the instructors, told us what we were going to be doing.
Next, all the groups walked onto the meadow and played some fun games. The first game was penguins on icebergs. Four or five people stood on a sheet and had to fold it over twice without stepping on the grass! Our next game was holding hands in a circle and trying to turn around without letting go. My favourite game was the holding hands without letting go game because it was quite challenging.
After break, all the groups started to collect things to make their skeleton. We were going to do a treasure hunt to find our skeleton`s history. All the groups wandered around the wet forest finding things for their skeleton.
Before dinner, we put our skeletons together so they looked real. We were all very excited about the treasure hunt.
After lunch, we completed the treasure hunt! We were finding our skeletons belongings to see how they might have lived when they were alive.
Following that, we finished the treasure hunt and guessed what our skeleton might have done for a living. After we guessed what our skeletons might've been, we were split into our tree groups. We walked around to every group`s skeleton and if there was someone in that tree group that made the skeleton then they would explain what their skeleton might've been. I thought my group`s skeleton was a traveller because it had a small bag, climbing clip and old boarding pass.
Finally, it was time to leave. Everyone said “thank you” to all the leaders. Everybody walked to the adult that drove them to forest school and then went back to school. We all had a great day at forest school.I learnt that treasure doesn't have to be gold or silver. I enjoyed my day at forest school.
