  • Storm Eunice

    Tue 22 Feb 2022 Richard

Storm Eunice battered Devon this February with record breaking winds and school closures all across the county.

We understand how difficult it can be for parents, with important jobs such as nursing, to organise child care at very short notice.

This is why we opened with a skeleton staff, who live very close to school, for children of essential workers.

The storm raged outside all day and the thirty children who came in took the opportunity to have their own wild day whilst safely tucked away inside school.

We used the whole school to play Hide and Seek and played lots of team games such as “Hunt the Tennis Balls” and “Cross the Lava”.

    We even played “Jelly Racing”.

We had loads of fun but, more importantly, there was no serious local damage and no one was hurt.

  • Netball Champions

    Mon 21 Feb 2022 Richard

five wins out of five swept our netball team to victory in this year’s Torrington Tournament.

It’s great to go one place better than in the league, where we were runners up, and brilliant to get a win against our great rivals Langtree, who thumped us in the league.

  • South West Floor and Vault

    Mon 21 Feb 2022 Richard

We had a lot more gymnastics success at this year’s South West Region Floor and Vault Finals.

    These we’re our results:

    Boys’ Team - Silver Medal

    Mixed Team - Silver Medal

     Girls’ Team - Bronze Medal

  • Runners Up !!!

    Mon 21 Feb 2022 Richard

We took our under nine girls out last week to play in their first tournament of the season which involved teams from across North Devon.

We played some great football to win our group and reach the semi-finals where we went up against the winners of the other groups.

Another great performance saw us win 3-0 against Ilfracombe and a final against a strong side from Caen in Braunton.

We played really well, however they were a bit too good for us on this occasion.

Hopefully we’ll play again before the end of the season!

    The results were:

    Bradworthy 3-1 Woolacombe

    Bradworthy 4-0 Woolsery

    Bradworthy 6-0 Kingsley

    Semi final:

    Bradworthy 3-0 Ilfracombe

    Final:

    Bradworthy 0-2 Caen

  • Gliddon & Squire Cross Country - Shebbear

    Sun 20 Feb 2022 Becki

Our intrepid teams of runners were out in force on Sunday 6th February, to complete the penultimate race in the Gliddon & Squire series.

We saw some fantastic performances through a very wet and muddy course, with some brilliant finishes and overall positions.

Congratulations to Toby (Year Six) who wrapped up the under eleven title with a race to spare after five wins out of five.

George (Year Four) had another great win and is very close to the under nine title ahead of the last race.

All of our teams are in medal positions with a race to go, however it’s very tight and there’s everything to race for on the last day of the season.

The final races will take place on 6th March at West Buckland, where the individual and team competitions will be completed.

  • Football Champions

    Fri 18 Feb 2022 Richard

Our football team were out this January for a tournament which was held at Torrington.

We played teams from Abbotsham, Torrington, Langtree, Shebbear and Monkleigh, and after the disappointment of going out in the quarter finals at Exeter recently we were determined to try and do better.

    And, better we did …..

    These were our results:

    5 - 0, 4 - 0, 3 - 0, 2 - 0 and 3 - 0.

Five wins out of five and an impressive tournament win.

  • Valentine's Disco

    Fri 11 Feb 2022 Becki

We were treated to another wonderful disco by our amazing PTA last week, this time with a Valentine's theme.  Everyone enjoyed the music and games, along with the fantastic tuck shop and hair braids that were also available.    Thank you to everyone who helped before, during and after the event, for giving us such a fun filled evening!

  • Library News

    Fri 11 Feb 2022 Becki

We would like to say a big thank you to Holsworthy Rotary Club for their kind donation of the new Wild Tribe Heroes books to add to our collection. They will be going in the school library in time for the start of our reading challenge next half term!

  • Dartmoor Challenge - Winter 2022

    Mon 07 Feb 2022 Richard

Our Dartmoor Challenge got underway last week when we took our first group onto the moor for their first training walk as we start to build up to our three day challenge in the Summer.

The final event might be in the summer, however it has to be said that our February weather wasn't in any way "summery" last Friday.

We were very disappointed that there wasn't any lying snow (especially because the forecast said there was going to be a heavy fall on Yes Tor overnight), however it was certainly very cold.

We needed every layer we had as the "wind chill" took temperatures well below zero !!!

The upside was that we moved really quickly and completed our ten mile walk nearly an hour faster than we had planned.

Our next group will be out next week and then we're going to start "uping" the distances and heading for some more challenging terrain.

Thanks to Mark Harris who took these photos.

  • Chinese New Year

    Wed 02 Feb 2022 Becki

The children in Class Six had a wonderful day on Tuesday as part of our work on Chinese New Year.  We enjoyed lots of different activities including crafts, chopstick challenges and lots of Chinese cookery!
