  • Rugby Champions 2013

    Fri 31 May 2013
We're North Devon Rugby Champions again !!!

Last Wednesday we took two teams over to Barnstaple Rugby Club where forty teams took part in this year's North Devon Festival.

In the morning we played group matches to qualify for the knock out competition in the afternoon and it's great that both our A and B Teams were bale to do this.
Unfortunately Our B-Team were knocked out in the second knock out round.
Our A-Team won their first round match (against Baruanton Caen) 3 - 2 after extra time to reach the second round, and when they went 2 - 0 down to Landkey School with a couple of minutes to go it looked like they were going to be knocked out too.
An amazing fight back took them in to extra time again and we managed to scrape another 3 - 2 win.
The quarter and semi finals were a bit more straight forward with a 4 - 1 victory over Newport Academy and a 3 - 1 win against Ashleigh Road School.

This took us to the final.
Ilfracombe were our opponents and once again it was another exciting, and very even, match and at the end of full time the score was 3 - 3.
For the third time we headed in to extra time.
Both teams had chances but both defenses were strong enough to hold out but after what seemed like an hour we broke through on the left wing to score the winning try.

It's fair to say that we were pretty pleased to win 4 - 3 against such a strong Ilfracombe team, and regain the trophy which we last won a couple of years ago.
  • Bude Lifeboat

    Sat 25 May 2013
Class 1 went to visit the RNLI Lifeboat in Bude. They had a turn in the brand new lifeboat (on dry land!), talked about beach safety and laughed at Mrs Hare as she stood under a freezing shower in the full lifeboat crew kit!! We even had a picnic on the windy beach too. We couldn't believe how quickly the lifeboat crew members have to respond to a call-out and get changed into their kit. Amazing! Our topic has been 'Superheroes' so this visit was very fitting.
  • Class 5 on the Beach !

    Fri 24 May 2013

On Wednesday 22nd May the children in Year Five visited Northam Burrows and Westward Ho! beach as part of their Coasts topic.

We were able to spend the day working with wardens from the Burrows who helped us to explore the coastal environment, and we worked with Mr Sentance in the afternoon to create a pebble sculpture!

We started our day rockpooling to explore the coastal environment and the different habitats that it offers.

Once we returned with our buckets our wardens explained what we had caught.  Some of us had been lucky and caught prawns, blennys, crabs and whelks.  Other were not quite so lucky and caught lots of seaweed!!

On the way back to the Burrows centre we were lucky enough to have a talk from the RNLI lifeguards on the beach at Westward Ho!  They showed us their truck and their equipment, and explained what they do on the beach.

Unfortunately, while we were talking with the lifequards there was noone for them to rescue, so Miss Daniel was given the fantastic (!!) opportunity to play a drowning victim, and be saved by Amelie and Paul the lifeguard!  Luckily she survived the process (despite Amelie's best efforts to tie her legs together!).

After lunch at the Visitors Centre we went on a Coastal Walk with the wardens.  They were able to show us lots of coastal features, and explain how they are formed.

At the end of the walk we had a very active quiz to find out how much we had remembered!

We were all rewarded with an ice cream for remembering lots of facts and information.

Once our walk had finished we spent an hour with Mr Sentance creating a beach sculpture.  We had lots of fun being creative with the natural materials, and we are very proud of our finished product!

  • Buzz Lightyear

    Fri 24 May 2013
Families came together to enjoy fun and activities at Bradworthy Primary Academy and Pre-school on Thursday, May 16.
Buzz Lightyear and Peppa Pig dropped into the school and were met with excited pupils.
A busy programme of activities and fun for all the family helped make the day unforgettable. The atmosphere was buzzing as children joined Peppa to take part in various hands-on activities throughout the afternoon.
Children were making rockets, potato printing with Mr Potato Head, having pony rides with Woody, jumping into space on the bouncy castle and taking part in many other learning experiences.
  • Area Football Finals

    Wed 22 May 2013

The sixteen best teams in North Devon qualified for the area finals which were held at Barnstaple Football Club just before half term.

In the morning we played in groups and we put in some solid performances to win four matches and draw one. This meant we qualified for the semi-finals.

In the semi-final we played Sticklepath School, who were last year's winners.
It was a tight match but a single goal from Josh, along with a last second save from Ross, were enough to win the match 1 - 0.
In the final we played Torrington and it was an even tighter affair.
Unfortunately we were on the wrong end of a 1 - 0 score this time, and even though we were initially "gutted" it wasn't long before we remembered what a great achievement this was - as you can see from the smiling faces in the photos !

  • Netball Awards 2013

    Mon 20 May 2013

Our fabulous netball team recently attended their awards evening to mark the end of the Local Schools League.

They were eagerly waiting to find out how they had scored through the season.

They were thrilled to find out that they had come runners up in the entire league.

This is a credit to the endless effort that the girls have put into their training and their matches this year!

As part of the celebrations there was a shooting competition.  Bradworthy did very well in this, with Anna and Marie coming second and third out of all of the Year Sixes in the competition!

Well done girls - keep it up for the tournaments!

  • Teaching Appointment 2013

    Mon 20 May 2013
We are delighted to be able to announce the appointment of a new class teacher.
As a result of the interviews that we held last Friday Mr Nick Lapham will be joining our staff in September 2013 as the new teacher in Class One.
  • Shebbear Football 2013

    Sun 19 May 2013
We took four teams and thirty children over to Shebbear this weekend to play in their football rally.
Our biggest success of the day was our C-Team which contained younger children from Years Three and Four. They played brilliantly to win all of their matches and win their competition.
Our girl's team were runners up in their competition and so were our A-Team, who lost 2 - 1 in extra time in their final.
Well done to Adam who was voted player of the tournament.
  • Around the World

    Sat 18 May 2013
Our Student Parliament organised and ran an "Around the World" non-uniform day this week to raise money to buy some more books for our new library.
There were prizes for the best costumes in each class, a cake sale, sports competitions on our field and a "water balloon dodge ball" on the playground.
We raised £208 and as the school promised to match the amount we raised "pound for pound" this means over £400 for books !
  • Climbing 2013

    Fri 17 May 2013
We spent last Friday afternoon at Simon's climbing wall.
Simon comes in to school each week to teach us on our own 5m wall but it's great to be able to go out and train in a much bigger venue.
We're looking forward to getting out on the sea cliffs this summer.
