Class 4 enjoyed an amazing day at the Plymouth Aquarium. Our main focus was the Great Barrier Reef, however we all loved the sharks!
We were amazed at the variety of fish and animals that live in the oceans across the world. In the afternoon, we were able to take on the role of scientists. We investigated what a coral was, how it grew and survived in the ocean and the dangers of pollution to one of the worlds largest marine habitats..
It's the end of the trip, and Miss D has finally found a stable internet connection!
We have had a phenomenal few days away, and the children have been an absolute delight to spend time with. In each place that we have visited, people have stopped us and complimented the behaviour and attitude of the children, and they have impressed the other guests at the hostel with the way that they have managed themselves throughout their first residential.
As always with these trips, there are many people who need thanking for their hard work and time, especially Angela Davies, Val Brown, Ian Sampson and Paul Moulton. The trip certainly would not have been such a success without their endless effort and enthusiasm! Finally, the biggest thanks must go to the children for throwing themselves into another new experience with such an amazing level of maturity and wonderful behaviour. They have certainly been outstanding ambassadors for the school, and I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them!!
Well done everyone - let's start planning next year's now!!
The National Maritime Musuem Cornwall:
Investigation sessions - gathering ideas for our challenge...
Flambards: The Victorian Village & Britain in the Blitz
As the weather had stopped the ferries running to St. Michael's Mount, we fell back on a contingency plan (with many thanks to Rose for making many many phone calls on Thursday morning) & visited the exhibitions at Flambards. The children loved walking around the village and wartime town, and were incredibly interested in what they saw!
The Stars of the Show!!
These are the Laserquest Teams that reached the final.
Laserquest was fantastic - especially the bit where we got to shoot the teachers !
We're heading back to the Youth Hostel now after a really fun day.
Hopefully we'll get another good nights sleep so we are ready for Crealy tomorrow !
Internet allowing there will be more photos later on this evening.
This afternoon we had a great time looking around the Victorian Town at Flambards.
Unfortunately the rides weren't open but they will be at Crealy tomorrow !!!
Everyone had a great nights sleep and got ready for an exciting day out with a nice big breakfast.
These photos are from The Maritime Museum in Falmouth. The trip ended with a boat building competition and race - you'll have to check later to find out who won.
The windy weather has stopped the planned trip to St Michael's Mount but don't panic, there's a contingency plan to make sure everyone still has a great time !!!!!
There'll be lots more photos later on .....
It's 8pm on the first night away and the children are happily bowling away! Unfortunately the wifi access at the Youth Hostel is not working, so we have hijacked the office's wifi at the ten pin bowling centre instead! Everyone has had a fabulous day and enjoyed the activities so far. We have settled into the hostel, and had the customary hour and a half making beds!!! We will upload some photos whenever we can, and will do our best to update again tomorrow - even if Miss D ends up scouring Cornwall for wifi! Please leave comments when you can as the children love to hear them!
As an end to our topic work on the Tudors and Stuarts, Class Five visited 1646 in Torrington. During the day we were part of lots of sessions and activities which helped us to understand what life was like in Stuart England. Please check in to our class web page soon, as we are writing reports from the trip to explain what we got up to!
We had lots of fun learning about the weapons used in the Civil War. It was very exciting to be able to hold and feel the weapons and ammunition (although it was terrifying for Miss Daniel!), and Molly was not impressed with her 'boyfriend' when we learnt about Stuart etiquette! The most worrying moment was when Joe started a sword fight with Master Christopher - lets just hope Sir doesn't find out!
During lunch each group was able to explore the replica streets of Stuart Torrington, and we learnt about the plague, living conditions, and the Battle of Torrington.
We also enjoyed exploring the stocks, and Miss Daniel is going to suggest that the student parliament consider adding a set to the playground - somewhere to keep the children who haven't learnt their spellings!
At the end of the day we were treated to a musket firing display, before we were enlisted into the Royalist Army! Master Christoper and Mistress Agnes think our Pike skills may still need a little work though!
