  • Class One - Rosemoor

    Sat 31 Mar 2018

As part of our topic work on Senses, the children in Year One visited RHS Rosemoor.  We took part a great session learning all about our senses in the morning and were able to explore the garden using our senses to guide us!  After lunch we had some free time to play in the brash, which was lots of fun.  We all loved the play area, and even Kim enjoyed the slide - it was very fast!!

  • North Devon Gymnastics

    Sun 25 Mar 2018

    North Devon School’s Gymnastics Competition

On March 25th we took over 40 gymnasts to the North Devon School’s Gymnastics Competition in Barnstaple.  Over the course of the day our pupils competed in front of an enormous audience, with floor routines, and vaults.  These performances were fantastic, and led to our most successful competition to date, and a very full trophy cabinet!

There were Gold team medals for our Under 7 Novice Boys, and our Under 7 Intermediate Girls.  Silver team medals were awarded to our Under 9 Intermediate Mixed team, and our Under 11 Intermediate Girls and Mixed teams.   Along with this haul of trophies came a huge number of individual awards.  Ewan Shadrick was awarded an individual Gold medal, with Toby Cleave, Josh Lui, and Isla Hayes all receiving silver medals for their individual performances. Finley Shadrick, Harvey Dack and May Francis added to our individual medal count with their Bronze awards.

In addition to these amazing results, we were incredibly proud to see Lucy Baker and Lacey Osborne receiving ‘Musical Interpretation’ awards for their routines, while Harvey Dack was awarded the ‘Endeavour’ award for his performance.

It goes without saying that we are all incredibly proud of these children.  They have worked so hard to achieve these amazing results and should be very proud of their successes.  We must also say an enormous thank you to our amazing coaches, Kerry, Sarah, Aaron and Claire, whose hard work and enthusiasm means that our children get to take part in such amazing experiences.

  • Sports Relief

    Fri 23 Mar 2018

On Friday March 23rd, Bradworthy Primary Academy came together to raise money to support Sports Relief, a very important charity providing help to those less fortunate than ourselves.   As part of our celebrations all of the children wore non-school uniform and took part in a ‘Mad Mile’, where we walked, ran, hopped, jumped and even rode in a wheelbarrow, around a mile long course through the village and school grounds.  We all had a huge amount of fun taking part in this, and it was finished off with a bake sale where the delicious goodies donated by our fantastic parents were sold to raise even more money for charity.

During the rest of the day, the children were involved in a range of mixed team sporting challenges, including a football and netball style match, a shuttle run competition, and a team run around school.  These events were lots of fun, and everyone enjoyed getting stuck in!  Our winners for each tournament are shown below, along with some photos of us enjoying our action packed day.

  • St Petroc's Cross Country

    Fri 09 Mar 2018

As many of you already know, we have celebrated an incredibly successful cross country season, mostly through our participation in the Gliddon & Squire Cross Country League.  However, one of the main races in our cross country calendar, is the St Petroc’s race, held in Bude.

The amazing form our runners have demonstrated was certainly maintained, as we celebrated some incredible individual and team results.  Eleanor Foster once again won her race, and Saul Barraclough obtained a Bronze medal in his race.  Our Under 11 Boys team won the team Gold – something that Bradworthy has never achieved until now.

It goes without saying that we are very proud of our runners.  Their effort and determination, along with their sportsmanship, amongst some appalling weather conditions was fantastic to see.

  • Big Spring Beach Clean

    Fri 09 Mar 2018

We had a great time at the beach last week doing our bit for the Big Spring Beach Clean, which was organised by Surfers Against Sewage, who also gave us all the gloves for the job.

The children did really well and did us proud as usual. They picked up a great deal of litter. Lots of them were surprised at how tiny some of the bits of plastic were. Class 5 were equally surprised at how much litter they found on the Burrows. They came back to school and spent the afternoon writing emails to the manufacturers of the products they had found.

This has helped us to gain our ’Plastic Free Schools’ award.

My favourite quote of the week has to be "Who knew litter picking could be so much fun!!"

We want to say a big thank you to North Devon AONB who supplied the the litter picking equipment, and our teams of parent helpers who came and helped us out.

Finally, thank you to all of you parents who sent the children dressed for all types of weather! We had high winds, rain, sun and sea mist!

  • Single Use Plastic Boycott

    Thu 08 Mar 2018

Our recent Boycott Day was a great success.

No single use plastic bottles in sight!

Class 4 organised some games for the school to enjoy during break time. These included Unlucky Dip, Sort the Plastic, Guess how many sweets in the jar, Treasure Island, Save the fish, Find the Fish, Throw the bottle and finally Find the bottle!

In the afternoon we created some art work together using beach plastic.

To finish off our day Class 4 had a high energy ‘TrashMob’ to clean up our playground.

So Objective 2 is complete, 3 more to go and we can be a Plastic Free School.

There is more to come so watch this space!!

  • The Great Eggcup Challenge

    Tue 06 Mar 2018

This year Class 6 have been learning some pottery skills and were challenged to design an eggcup.

The eggcup had to be usable. It needed to stand up and have a suitable cavity for an egg. Being imaginative was also a priority. “Bonkers is good” is our motto.

Sure enough, the class produced some really well-made inventive eggcups with everything from camels to aeroplanes.

Choosing the winners was really difficult and most of the teachers had a say in the final selection.

    We decided on two champions.

The prize for an imaginative and practical design was awarded to Chelsea Wade, and the prize for a bonkers design was awarded to Sian Hooper.

This whole competition was very enjoyable [as well as educational] and we hope it will take place again next year.

  • *Snow*Snow*Snow*

    Thu 01 Mar 2018

Due to the weather conditions that are forecast overnight, and the current snowfall, we have decided to close the school tomorrow (Friday 2nd March).

The World Book Day celebrations we had planned for tomorrow will be postponed, and we will let everyone know of the new date as soon as we have reorganised our diary.

The BMC Climbing Competition due to take place in Bristol on Saturday has also been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.

We hope you all have the opportunity to enjoy the snow, and that you all stay safe!

  • Year Four Museum

    Thu 01 Mar 2018

Year Four have finished their World War Two topic by hosting a ‘Museum’ for children and parents to enjoy.  Each child in Year Four designed and hosted a ‘stall’ full of historical facts, interesting artefacts and games, and everyone was very impressed with their subject knowledge and their hosting skills!  There was lots for everyone to see and do, and all of the children, teachers and parents enjoyed visiting the museum and learning some fascinating facts about the Second World War. We would all like to thank Year Four for all of their hard work!
