  • Summer BBQ 2021

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

Our end of Year Summer BBQ was an amazing event.

After everything that we've all been through over the last eighteen months it really was wonderful to welcome everyone back at the end of term.
It was quite an emotional experience - seeing everyone in school brought home everything that we have been missing in school for so long.
The most frightening thing is the way in which we have all become used to covid restrictions and the way in which we have settled into routines which should feel so alien.

Thank goodness that we've finally reached a point where we can all start to move on.

  • Year Five on Dartmoor

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

On Thursday 24th June Year Five should have been climbing England and Wales' higest mountain, which is Snowdon.

Welsh covid restrictions put a stop to this and instead we were lucky enough to take part in some taster sessions of some of the activities we'll get to do more of in Year Six.
This included a day on Dartmoor hiking up High Willhayes which is its tallest tor!

(at over 600m it is officially a mountain, although not one as big as Snowdon)

Everyone had a great time and showed real determination - I think they may have been tired by the end too!

We'll be climbing Snowdon in September now.

  • Year Five at Alton Towers

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

Our Year Five residential trip to North Wales had to be postponed in June becasue of covid restrictions in Wales.
This sounds terrible but we've rearranged the trip to take place in September, and also sorted out an activity week in June which involved a day trip to Alton Towers.

After a very early start, Class Five spent a day at Alton Towers as part of their activity week. Everyone had fun and pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones to try rides that went in every sort of speed and direction possible - another very long, fun and tiring day!

  • Ocean Rivival

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

Ocean Revival 2020 is a team of serving and former serving Royal Marine Commandos, who have fought alongside each other in 45 Commando.
They have now teamed up to take the fight against plastic by attempting to raise awareness and help keep momentum in the fight against plastic in our oceans by rowing across the North Atlantic Ocean.

One of their team visited us in school and we've been following their adventure.

Check out their website at: www.oceanrivival2020.com

  • Year Six at the Wake Park

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

Year Six have spent a lot of time learning to Wakeboard this year, taking part in weekly lessons and getting tot he point where loads of us have progressed from knee-boards to wakeboards and are able to get around the lake standing up.

We didn't Wakeboard on this ocaasion becasue we decided to follow the emotion of our Leaver's Assembly with a few hours of fun.

Having had a lunch of either hot dogs and chips or pizza we spent a hour on the "ring-goes" and then tried to kill each other on the Aqua-Park.

The adults only just escaped with their lives!!!

What would have happened if we hadn't been nice to them all year ...... ?

  • Sports Day 2021

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

It was great to welcome parents back to a school event after covid restrictions were lifted on 19th July.

We had deliberately move our two day competition to the last week of term in the hope that they would be able to join us for the first "normal" school event in eighteen months - and even the weather didn't let us down.

Children from across the school competed in their Houses in a range of team sports (football, netball, hockey and rugby), in traditional events like the sack race and in a day of athletic competition for children in Classes Three, Four, Five ans Six - which included sprints, relay races, longer runs, long jump, high jump and throwing events lie javalin.

The atmosphere was amazing with everyone taking part in whatever events they wished, and doing everythng they could to win points for their team.
Everyone showed a real sporting attitude, both in victory and defeat, and we are all very proud of all of our children.

Congratuations to Herons who won the two day event.

  • Gardening in School

  • Year Three Beach Trips

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

Class Three have enjoyed several beach trips to Westward Ho!
We explored rock pools and identified what we found, played water games and rounders on the beach and also left a good luck message in the sand for Ocean Revival Adventures!

  • Flambards

    Sat 31 Jul 2021 Richard

As an end of year treat Years Three and Four spent the day at Flambards Theme Park.
Not exactly educational, but after the year we've all had who cares - everyone deserved a fun day out !!!
