  • Local History in Bideford

    Fri 28 Jan 2022 Richard

Year Six had a brilliant day in Bideford this January when we went out to explore Bideford and find out about our local area’s history.

We spent the morning at the Burton Art Gallery exploring their museum and looking at their amazing collection of historic local pottery.

We also spent some time looking at their latest art exhibition which had works by internationally famous artists like Joan Miro, Lucian Fraud, David Hockney and Pablo Picasso.

It was incredible to see such important work in North Devon.

After lunch at the Burton we walked through Bideford and talked about the history of lots of different locations as we went.

We were then welcomed into St. Mary’s Church where we had a really interesting time following their history trail and where we started to find out about one of Bideford’s biggest ever stories - The Bideford Witches.

Bradworthy Get Downed in the Knock Outs

Dan made some brilliant saves and Toby scored some fantastic goals. Everyone in our team was paying brilliantly but we couldn’t hold on!!
We were doing so well , Four games and didn't loose one. We were at the top of our group and ready to battle our way to the finals.

It came to the knockouts ......

We lost narrowly. Their number seven raced down the wing and blasted the ball into the back of the net. He was short but speedy and the got the winning goal.
    2 – 1 and we were gutted !!

    Lunch time …..

It was twelve twenty and time for lunch and we made a bad decision - we went to the minibus and sat in the warm.  Although it might seem strange we should have stayed in the cold because when we got on the bus our energy drained away.

Our quarter final match was at 1pm and we weren’t ready, we had so many shots and opportunities, we hit the bar three times and their keeper pulled off loads of amazing saves, but sadly we missed all of them, except for one.

    We were beaten !!!

We had so much fun. In the end we were disappointed but happy that we had taken part.

There's another Devon competition coming up in the Summer and we're determined to train hard and win this one !!!

  • South West Gymnastics Finals - 2022

    Sun 23 Jan 2022 Richard

We took three teams to this year’s South West Gymnastic Finals this Sunday (23rd January).

Our gymnasts had to vault, perform an individual floor routine and also give a team floor presentation.

Competing at this very high level is a great experience and we’re delighted to have come away with five medals:

    Boys’ Team - Gold Medal

    Mixed Team - Silver Medal

    Girls’ Team - Bronze Medal

Baxter (Year Five) - Silver Medal

Arthur (Year Six) - Bronze Medal

Our Boys’ Team and Mixed Team have now qualified for the National Finals in Stoke which will take place in a few weeks time.

  • North Devon Champions

    Sat 15 Jan 2022 Richard

Our cross country runners took part in the North Devon Championships when they competed at Coxleigh Barton just before Christmas.

If we’re being honest I’m not actually sure we knew it was the Championship Race!

At least no one had the chance to be overcome with nerves!!

Well done to George (Year Four) and Toby (Year Six) who won their races and are now North Devon Champions at under nine and under eleven.

  • Torrington Netball League

    Thu 13 Jan 2022 Richard

This is our netball team enjoying some beautiful January sunshine - or at least squinting into it !

We played in a league before Christmas and we won five of our six fixtures.

Unfortunately this wasn’t quite good enough to win the title but we’re still very proud of our runners up, second place finish.

We’ve got a tournament in two weeks time and we’re determined to go one better !!

  • Gliddon and Squire 2022

    Mon 10 Jan 2022 Richard

We welcomed in the New Year this Sunday with another great team performance at the latest round of cross country running at Westward Ho!

Toby (Year Six) and George (Year Four) both recorded victories again and at the risk of tempting fate they are closing in on individual titles now.

Our team results are even more impressive because they rely on the efforts of everyone - whether they are finishing first or last.

The following is down to every member of our team of over thirty runners.

    After four rounds:

    Under Nine Girls - 1st

    Under Nine Boys - 2nd

    Under Eleven Girls - 3rd

    Under Eleven Boys - 1st

    Schools Competition - 1st
