  • Tri-Golf

    Thu 27 Nov 2014

Last week we took a Year 4 and Year 5/6 teams to the “tri-golf” festival at Holsworthy Community College. We’ve never entered one of these before so both the children and Mr Lapham didn’t know how it would work or what to expect.

However, after some thorough demonstrations from the sports leaders at Holsworthy, we soon picked it up and ended up doing really well with Holly Chamberlain winning the individual award for the Year 4 girls and our Year 5/6 team winning the team award for their category.

  • Class 2 at Julians's Farm

    Mon 24 Nov 2014
On November 19th class 2 visited Juluan's Farm to learn about our local environment and habitats.
We were really lucky to hear from a local vet all about cows and how they process their food through each of their four stomachs to make the poo which goes on to help the grass grow. We looked at grass, hay and straw and learned about how it grows and how it is used on a farm. We even had time to visit the calves and fed them our grass.
In the morning we also planted conkers and hope to visit the farm again in the Spring to plant them out.

In the afternoon we went for a walk through the fields along the river Torridge. Everyone had sheets they used to note what they had seen. We learned about all the different animals that live there along the river and in the culm land.
We all had a fantastic day and would like to thank Jenny and Andrew for showing us around their farm.
  • Remembrance 2014

    Tue 18 Nov 2014
Every year at 11.00am on the 11th of November the whole school goes down to the War Memorial on the Square where we stand silently for two minutes to remember all of the people who have given their lives for us.
We always read all of the names of the local soldiers who are on the memorial and we also read poetry which was written by soldiers in the trenches.
Lots of people from the village came and stood with us this year.

  • Dartmoor Autumn 2014

    Mon 03 Nov 2014

On the 16th of October a group of eleven pupils from Class 6 walked on Dartmoor, including me. We walked on Dartmoor for about 6.5 hours. The distance we covered was 10 miles.

Sir parked the minibus near the reservoir near Meldon. Then we walked up and around to Black Tor, we met a wild pony on the way. We had to stay away from the firing range because the army were firing !
After that we walked down a valley, crossed a river and walked up to Shelstone Tor. So far we had walked about 3miles.

Next we were walking on the hardest Tor, Branscombe's Loaf. Branscombes loaf is a giant hill that seems to last for miles but we finally reached the top. After that, we walked through a marsh, loads of people fell over. Gren Tor was the next Tor we walked to. That was generally much easier.
We had lunch in an emergency shelter because it was raining really hard.

The next Tor could be classed as a mountain, because its over 600m. It is called Great Links Tor.
We had nearly finished walking on Dartmoor, the last Tor was Sourton Tors. After that it was flat land to the car park.

Overall I really enjoyed walking on Dartmoor and I would happily do it again I'm hoping to walk the 25miles walk later on in the year.

  • MacMillan 2014

    Sat 01 Nov 2014

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our MacMillan Coffee Afternoon which we held in support of their fundraising for the support of people with cancer.

A combination of a non-uniform, “Onesie” day, cake sale and coffee afternoon, which was attended by loads of parents, meant that we raised nearly £400 which is an amazing effort.
