  • Sign Friendly

    Sat 29 Jun 2013
Today we had a visit from Debra May as part of Sign Friendly Week. Debra teaches Bristish Sign Language across Devon and is profoundly deaf from birth herself.  The theme of the assemblies was "going to the beach". The children had a great time learning many basic signs, their favourites including those based on the sea life and the sign for ice cream!
  • Forest School 2013

    Fri 28 Jun 2013
This term class 2 have been going to Tamar Lake Forest School each week. We have been learning about our local environment, and mapping the forest school area. The children have followed trails, made journey sticks and  made mini beasts out of clay and the natural resources around us. Every week we are treated to a mug of hot chocolate around the campfire whist we eat our snacks.
  • Sculpture Project

    Fri 28 Jun 2013
It was a great privilege to be asked to design and build some sculptures to go on permanent display at Rosemoor Gardens.
As you can see we've been really busy in school and last week a group of us took our work over so that it could be installed.
Seeing the things that we had made displayed made us feel very proud - the only disappointment was that we weren't allowed to use the chainsaw which was used to cut the grooves in to which the heads slotted !!!
  • Class 1 Castle Visit

    Wed 26 Jun 2013
Class 1 visited Okehampton Castle and had a lovely time climbing the motte, searching for medieval toilets and leaping out from dark corners to "attack" the enemy with imaginary bows and arrows! A huge thank you to Rachel for driving all the way to Okehampton and helping with the trip.
  • Local Environment

    Tue 25 Jun 2013
Last week class 2 visited Blackberry Farm as part of our topic on 'Growing' and 'The Local Environment'. Lizzy showed us all around the farm. We looked around the vegetable gardens and tasted lots of fresh herbs. Lizzy introduced us to lots of the animals on the farm. We saw the chickens, cows, lambs, horses, ponies, donkeys, and even tickled the two enormous pigs Charlie and George. Lizzy then treated all the children (and adults) to a fresh made donut cookie......yum, yum!!!

It's the end of the trip and everyone is safely home and recovering.  We had a fabulous day at Alton Towers yesterday, having lots of of fun on the rides and winning our very own class mascot!

As you can see from the pictures below, everyone was in high spirits all day long, and some even managed to stay awake the whole way home!

I am sure the children are all exhausted today, and they have certainly worked hard throughout the week.  I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them - their attitude and effort in so many different challenging activities was absolutely exemplary, and every single child should be proud of everything that they have achieved.

Finally, we have to say an enormous thank you to Caroline and Ian, who gave up their time and so much enthusiasm to help the children have such a fabulous time.  We are all very grateful!

I hope everyone has a restful weekend, and look forward to seeing everyone in school on Monday morning - where we will have the customary 'swap shop' with all of the items that people have accidentally packed in the wrong cases!!

Well done Year 5 - you should be very very proud of yourselves and know that we are all incredibly proud of you!

Some of us were very tired on Thursday evening, and fell asleep during the film!  Needless to say this created a fab photo - sorry girls, I am sure you will seek your revenge on Monday!!

    Wed 19 Jun 2013

Hello again!  It's the evening of Day Four and we have had another action packed day in the mountains.  Today we have been either kayaking and climbing, or gorging, and everyone has had a fabulous day despite the weather which has returned to its usual - wet and grey!!

The children are all very excited as we are en route to the cinema at the moment - I would imagine several of them will sleep through the film though!!

Needless to say everyone is very excited about a day at Alton Towers - suitcases have already been packed so that we can make an early get away from the hostel!

We will try to update again when we can, and look forward to seeing everyone back at school tomorrow night.

Hello again everyone! It's the end of Day Three and everyone is excitedly gearing up for our skiing session.  We have all had an action packed day either gorging, or climbing and kayaking!  Needless to say everyone has enjoyed getting wet and splashing around in the sunshine and trying new activities!

One of our groups has been Gorging with Katrin today, while the other two were Climbing with Fred and Kayaking with Stuart.  Tomorrow we will get to try the activities we haven't already done and everyone is looking forward to another action packed day.

Everyone has slept well - lots of children needed waking up this morning, and everyone is eating lots (and lots and lots!!!).

We will hopefully update tomorrow evening before we go to the cinema!

Lots of love to everyone back home, and thank you for the comments.

We are all enjoying our skiing sessions - those of us who have been skiing before are using the main slope and having a great time, and the rest of us are having a lesson.  It's been a huge amount of fun so far!

    Sun 16 Jun 2013

Hello everyone!  We are nearing the end of Day 2, and as the photos might suggest we all made it to the top of Snowdon.  This is a fabulous achievement, and we are all very proud of the children for their fantastic effort and attitude throughout the day!   Lukily the weather has been kind, so for the first time in years there was a bit of a view at the top and we managed to walk without wearing waterproofs!

At the moment the children are all energetically exploring the climbing centre - they should be tired by the end of the day!

Tomorrow we are all looking forward to either kayaking and rock climbing, or gorging|!  We will get pictures up again as soon as we can!

Thank you for your comments so far - everyone is in really high spirits, and enjoying every minute!

    Sat 15 Jun 2013
We've reached the Black Country Museum and as you can see we've had a great time exploring the Victorian Town. We've traveled into the old coal mines on a canal barge, visited a Victorian school and been down a coal mine.
We're heading for North Wales now.
There won't be an internet connection at the Youth Hostel but we'll do our best to update this page at some point tomorrow.
Hopefully the children will be able to ring home from the top of Snowdon at lunch time tomorrow !
