Our PTA organised another great Hobby Fayre for us.
Everyone had loads of fun designing and making things over Easter and this week we displayed them in the Memorial Hall.
The Hobby Fayre had a medieval theme and these were the categories we could choose from:
Design a Knight's Shield
Model Dragon (made out of junk)
Minature Castle
A Magic Spell
Fairy Cakes
A Hat fit for a Princess or a Knight
Plan a Medieval Banquet
Needlework
Neatest Handwriting
We set out our entries from 8am on Friday morning and at 10am the doors were locked for judging.
Our Brass Band played at 1pm to open the fayre and loads of people came from the village to look at the things we had made.
They had refreshments which included cakes and biscuits that had bee made by Year Six.
We all went down during the afternoon to see everyone's work and find out who had won the different categories.
At the end of the afternoon the overall winners were announced.
The winners were:
Brooke (4 – 5 Years Old Age Group)
Harriet (6 – 7 Years Old Age Group)
Jessica (8 – 9 Years Old Age Group)
Cerys (10 – 11 Years Old Age Group)
We’d like to thank our fantastic PTA for sorting out such a brilliant event.
We can’t wait for the next one.
Tree Planting Galore!
Class Six went to Julian's Farm to plant some trees we planted 60 trees altogether. On the farm there are now 1100 trees planted, there are a variety of trees. The Wildlife Trust met us at the farm to explain the environment.
The reason that lots of trees have been planted on the farm is that they are trying to join up the woodland. So then there is more space for the wildlife and to make more habitats.
There was also a rare type of land there called Culm which lots of wildlife lives in. Such as Butterfly's, Caterpillars, Frogs, Spiders and lots of different types of Bird. Also next to the Culm was a part of The River Torridge which changes places when it deposits the land it erodes in a different place.
We all had a really great day at the farm, and can't wait to see the outcome of our efforts!

We have just started a new project in school which has involved the election of a Student Parliament.
It is this groups job to work to make the school a better place for all of the children and they have been given a £500 budget in order to do this.
The election was a very close affair with votes being cast by children across the school and the following “seats” in our Parliament being awarded to the House Teams:
Robins - 11 seats
Puffins - 10 seats
Magpies - 9 seats
Herons - 9 seats
This all means that Robins got the most votes but there is no overall winner which will force the children to work together. What gets grandly called a Coalition.
This week was a big occasion because our Parliament met for the first time to discuss things like new playground equipment, clubs, new books for the library, board games to play with during breaks and of course the development of the outside area.
They’ve certainly given themselves plenty to think about and do in the next few months.
If you want to find out more go to "About" on the menu bar at the top of this page and click "Student Parliament".
The biggest achievement of the day came from our C-Team who were playing in their first ever tournament. The morning involved group matches and we were very happy when they qualified from their group in to the knock out rounds.
Having lost their first round knock out match the C-Team qualified for the plate competition, where they won their quarter final, semi-final, and then the final itself to win this competition.
Our A and B Teams are a lot more experienced and for the second competition running they met each other in the semi-finals of the main cup competition.
This was another very close mach with the A-Team narrowly beating the
B-Team 2 – 0.
Another brilliant day of sport was completed in the final when our A-Team won the competition.
Bob fixes it for children in Bradworthy
Families came together to enjoy fun and activities at Bradworthy Primary Academy and Pre-School on Thursday 22nd March.
Bob the builder and spud the scarecrow dropped into the school and were met with some very excited faces!
A packed programme of activities and plenty of fun for all the family helped make the day unforgettable. The atmosphere was buzzing as children joined Bob to take part in various hands-on activities throughout the day.
Children had the opportunity to build walls with Bob, explore the diggers, make their own scarecrows, complete collage activities with Wendy and take part in many other learning experiences.
The school was overwhelmed by the support and would like to say special thanks to Mark Broadhead Ltd. of Kenwyn Stoves and chimneys from Torrington for loaning Bob the builder for the day, Mole Valley Farmers for the use of their hard hats and wheel barrows and Alan Balsdon for letting us climb all over his digger
For the first time ever we qualified for the Devon Hockey Finals this year. They took place at Exeter University and it was an amazing opportunity for our children.
The standard of the competition was really high but our children rose incredibly to the occasion to the point where they won all five of their group matches to reach a semi-final which we won 7 – 0 against Umberleigh School who had qualified from North Devon.
This meant we had reached the Devon Hockey Final for the first time.
The final was played against Trinity School from South Devon and it was an incredibly tight match, full of ups and downs and tension, and in the end I’m sorry to say that we lost 3 – 2, conceding a goal to just about the last shot of the match, and having lead 2 -1 at one point.
The children’s initial reaction was disappointment, to say the least, however they soon gathered themselves (as you can see in the photo) and the fact is that if anyone had said we’d have ended up as runners up in Devon when we started working with the children last October we’d have probably laughed.
