  • Gliddon and Squire 2019 Season

    Sun 29 Sep 2019

On Sunday 29th September we were up bright and early for the first race in the Gliddon & Squire Cross Country Series 2019.   Our team of 36 runners (a school record!), made a terrific start to the series of races, with several children gaining top ten finishes, and some fabulous team perfornances.  We also had lots of fun in the mud, with Finley making the most of the muddy course, and Ewan finding innovative ways to clean off his brother!!

At the end of the first race our two Under 9 teams are sitting in 3rd position, and our Under 11 teams are sitting in 4th position.  This is a fantastic result after only one race, and we are already looking forward to the next race on Sunday 12th October at Shebbear College.

We must also pay tribute to some very brave parents who have also chosen to enter the Cross Country league!  Currently both the Bradworthy Ladies and Mens teams are sitting in Silver Medal positions, and it goes without saying that we are all very proud of them!

  • Y6 Surfing

    Sat 28 Sep 2019

Over the course of the year our school offers a wide range of outdoors and adventurous sports.  As part of their programme of activities, our Year Six pupils have started surfing sessions in Bude.  These sessions will take place over the first half term of the year, and as you can see from the pictures below, the children have been very keen to get stuck in!

  • M&M Theatre: The Hobbit

    Fri 27 Sep 2019

In September the M&M Theatre group visited school, and we were treated to a performance of 'The Hobbit'.  Everyone enjoyed watching the show, with the wonderful characters, music and songs, and scenery.  Following the performance the children in Year Five were able to take part in a 'Behind the Scenes' workshop.  During this session the children were able to explore how a show like The Hobbit is put together, and they were even able to have a go on some of the specialist sound equipment!  We would like to thank the wonderful actors from M&M Theatres for their time and energy - we look forward to seeing them again next year!

  • Year Two At Okehampton Castle

    Thu 26 Sep 2019

Class 2 have been learning about Motte and Bailey Castles this week and had a fantastic day out at Okehampton Castle. In the morning they enjoyed exploring the ruins and were thrilled to find the ‘garderobe’ (castle toilet). Everyone had chance to climb to the top of the motte and walk around the keep, the highest point of the castle. We then had a picnic lunch at the base of the castle. In the afternoon everyone had chance to try on some items of medieval style clothing... the swords were very popular!! We finished the day playing bubble games in the meadow to burn off some energy before heading back to school.

  • Space Chase 2019!

    Wed 25 Sep 2019

Earlier this term we were visited by Mary and Helen from Holsworthy Library, who came to present lots of our children with certificates and awards for completing the summer reading challenge.   We were incredibly proud of the children who spent time in the summer holidays accessing the library and reading six books or more.  As always, we are very grateful to Mary and Helen, as well as our fantastic librarian Kymble, for all of their help in supporting our children to develop a love of reading.

Every year libraries across the country run the Summer Reading Challenge, encouraging children to visit the library and read six books over the holidays. This year the theme of the challenge was "Space Chase" inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. A fantastic 26 children from Bradworthy completed the challenge this year, reading 156 books between them!

  • Jabberwocky at Rosemoor

    Fri 20 Sep 2019

As part of our first English topic of the year, the children in Year Five visited RHS Rosemoor last week to support our work based on the poem Jabberwocky.

We used the various woodland settings to boost our ideas about the setting of the poem by exploring the trees and woodlands, acting out some of the main parts of the poem and sketching the surroundings in a range of media.

During the day we received many compliments about the children’s behaviour and effort.  It is wonderful to have such a positive start to the year, and we look forward to our next trip!

  • Pocket Trumpets!

    Thu 19 Sep 2019

This term we have been able to hire a class set of Pocket Trumpets from Devon Music Services.  This has given our Key Stage Two pupils the chance to take part in some fun (and very noisy!) music lessons.  We are pleased to be able to retain these instruments for the Autumn Term of 2019, and we will continue to give each class in Key Stage Two lessons, with the project kick starting our brass band sessions.

  • Bristol - Arrival

    Wed 18 Sep 2019

Hello everyone.  This is a quick update to let you know that we have arrived safely, and we have had a fantastic first day.   We have explored, experimented and 'played' our way through We The Curious, enjoying a science show about rockets and launches, and a 3d planetarium presentation which gave us a 'Grand Tour' of the solar system.   Following this we have settled into the Youth Hostel, eaten our dinner, and everyone is now getting changed ready to head to laser quest shortly.

Hopefully we will be able to update you later on this evening with some more photos from our adventures!

  • North Wales - Black Country Museum

    Wed 18 Sep 2019

    Hi Everyone,

Mrs T here with some photographs from today's visit to the Black Country museum.  We spoke to the group as they were leaving the museum, and everyone had thoroughly enjoyed their visit - especially the school room session where some naughty children (and teachers!) were punished!  The children were able to explore all of the 'living' properties, gaining first hand experience and meeting some very interesting Victorian characters.   They were also able to tour a Victorian mine shaft, and enjoy a canal boat tour of the caverns around the museum.   They were due to leave the museum after we had spoken, and were heading directly to the hostel.  Due to the lack of wifi, and mobile signal, we aren't expecting to hear any more this evening, but if we do I will try and get an additional message here.

Please feel free to leave comments below.  These will need to be approved before they are published, and so may take some time to appear.  If you are having difficulties you can email me at beckidaniel@hotmail.com, and I will post comments for you.

  • North Wales

    Wed 18 Sep 2019

Hi again everybody.  We've had a brief phone call from the group again today, and everyone is in very good spirits, eating really well, sleeping well and enjoying the activities.  Today the children have either kayaked, and climbed, or been gorging , and they are all excited to be going paintballing this evening.  As you can see from the pictures here, everyone looks like they are having a thoroughly amazing time!
