  • Dartmoor on a Stormy Day

    Wed 30 Mar 2022 Richard

Hopefully you'll have read Cerys' report about a lovely, warm and sunny day that we recently spent walking on Dartmoor .....

All we need to say about this day is that it couldn't have been more different !!!!!

  • Big Win for Years Three and Four !!!

    Watch this space .....

I've been involved with football at our school for twenty-four years now and we've had some amazing teams (including Devon Champions) over the years.

Our current teams are being coached by Elliot and with out wishing to give hime a big head he clearly knows what he is doing and the children are really responding to him.

I think this is the best Under Nine Team we've ever had and they're going to be unbeatable by the time they are in Year Six.

  • Dartmoor on a Sunny Day !!!

    Mon 28 Mar 2022 Richard

    Amazing Dartmoor Trip!!!

After the first Dartmoor trip was cancelled due to Storm Eunice, and a red weather waning, and disastrous weather for the second trip, which caused us to cut the route short, Bradworthy’s Dartmoor second group finally got to walk 14 miles in amazing sunshine!

We walked from our start at the North of the Oakhampton firing range all the way to Dinger Tor where we stopped for a break. Then we pressed on all the way to the top of Fur tour where we had lunch. This was around 7 miles and we still had to walk all the way back!

On Thursday 24th March at 7:45 the whole of our Dartmoor group were at school in there walking gear and we all got onto the bus ready for the 14 miles we had to walk. As we got of the bus we could feel the warm breeze and we all new it was going to be so much fun than last time!

We had a few stops on the way to Dinger Tor but we never stopped for long and by the time we got there I had already finished off two packets of sweets and a whole bottle of water. We crossed some really rough ground, which was exhausting, and got to Fur Tor and had lunch. There was an amazing view. After lunch before we set of to finish the last seven miles that we had left but we all had lots of fun running around and playing games before we set off!

The way back was the best part because we found lots of sheep bones and we even found a smoke grenade but it did not work.
We also got to jump into huge rivers almost as deep as us. We found lots of jelly ground and it was brilliant to jump up and down on it and feel the ground shake. Jelly ground is a peice of grass that has lots of water underneath it and when you jump up and down the ground wobles!

When we were almost back at the start we came across another river. We were allowed to plunge into the water and it was even deep enough to dunk our heads under in one place!
We never wanted to leave because it was so enjoyable.

We are all looking forward to the challenging 25 miles camping trip in the summer and lots the other walks too.

  • Gliddon and Squire - End of Season

    Mon 28 Mar 2022 Richard

    Great Gliddon Squire

It was an amazing season for Bradworthy Academy’s cross country teams with two second place medals for the U9 girls and U11 boys; a third place for the U9 Boys and fourth place for the U11 Girls!

Toby won every race and George won four and this helped each of the boys’ team a lot and made them Champions.

It couldn't have been a better season.

The wins, the fails and all in between

Toby won all 6 of his races which helped the U11 boys team come second. Arthur and Sam were always neck and neck at the end of every race but Sam's sprint finish nearly always beat Arthur, just.  Although Toby won all of his races; on more than one occasion he ran the wrong way, luckily every one else followed him!

Gorge's first race was a great success which boosted his confidence and which led him to victory.

Holly in Year Four had a great season. She ran really hard in every race and ended the season with an individual medal.

We had some great runner in Year Three, like Felicity, who had really good performances running against older children in Year Four – she wants to get a gold medal next year!

May didn't quite get a victory but she defiantly deserved to get one. Sadly on the last race May took a tumble and came 2nd to last but we all cheered her in and we all made her feel better about her accident.

    The End Of  The Season

I couldn't name everyone who ran this year because there were so many people taking part but we got amazing results thanks to everyone’s hard work.

We had a brilliant time - even though we had to get up early on a lot of Sunday morning, it was a fun experience!

  • North Devon Athletics Finals

    Mon 28 Mar 2022 Richard

We qualified for this year’s North Devon Indoor Athletics Finals by winning our local area event before Christmas.

The final took place in the leisure centre in Barnstaple this February and involved fourteen teams from across North and West Devon.

Our team of twelve put in and amazing effort to finish in third place but this wasn’t the highlight of the day ……

…… when we’d finished competing we went to McDonald’s for a late lunch !!!!!

  • World Book Month !!!

    Mon 28 Mar 2022 Richard

We’re not doing a World Book Day this year - we’re doing a whole month !!!

Developing a love of reading is one of our most important aims as a school and this is why we employ Kimble as our librarian.

She works incredibly hard and this year she’s helped us move to a whole new level …..

We’re encouraging our children to read as much as possible this month.

We’re offering stickers and things like fridge magnets along the way as they head towards medals for everyone who manages to read every day for a month.

We’ll be holding a Book Day at the end of term which will involve fancy dress and our annual whole school book quiz.

With all of this going on who wouldn’t want to get into a good book?

  • More Moor !!!

    Tue 08 Mar 2022

Our Dartmoor Challenge trading walks continued this week with a fifteen mile round trip to Fur Tor - one of the most remote places on Dartmoor.

  • A Week in the Life of .....

    Sun 06 Mar 2022 Richard

We’re always very busy in school …..

I’d like to think about our Year Six children’s last week in school because I think it sums up everything that we are about as a school.

I think the children in this class have had the chance to experience more things in the last week than most primary aged children would experience in a whole school year.

At the start of the week the children handed in a 500 word creative writing task which was worked on in school and completed at home over half term, along with science based topic work on Atomic Structure and Mass – so please don’t think that it’s all play and no work !!!

The children also performed the “five minute Macbeth performances” which they have been producing in school as a part of our English work.

They have had the opportunity to attend a huge range of clubs including: football, netball, running, climbing. Multi-Sports, rugby, gardening, rock band and textiles.

On Wednesday evening our class went to the Plough Theatre in Torrington to watch a performance of Macbeth.

On Thursday our indoor athletics team competed against twelve qualifying schools in the North Devon Finals – finishing in third place.

And, as if this wasn’t good enough we had lunch at MacDonald’s on the way back to school.

On Friday we took part in a fourteen mile walk on Dartmoor which took us to Fur Tor which is one of the most remote places in England.

This was a training walk on the way to our “Ten Tors Dartmoor Challenge”, which involves a twenty five mile walk and camping, and which takes place in July.

This Sunday we were competing in the final race of this season’s cross country running league, with over thirty children taking part.

Every single runner should be incredibly proud of their efforts, wherever they finished and, secondary to this, we also won two gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze.

After all of this you’d think we’d be ready for a few quiet weeks …..

No chance – we’ll be working hard in class next week, involved in even more sport in, and out of, school, back on Dartmoor next Friday and also taking two teams to the National Gymnastics Finals in Stoke next weekend.

As we said at the start of this report we’re always wonderfully busy in school …..
