  • Christmas Carols 2013

    Fri 20 Dec 2013
We spent the last afternoon of the school term in our village church celebrating Christmas.

We've had a very busy time in school recently and the Christmas break is likely to be just the same.

It was great to be able to spend a peaceful hour away from all of this, to sing a few Christmas carols and to think about what Christmas is all about.

We hope that everyone has a good Christmas.
  • Hi Ho Silver Away !!!

    Thu 19 Dec 2013
Our Christmas musical spectacular, The Lone Ranger, was an amazing success.
We performed to three packed audiences (nearly 600 people) who gave us standing auditions and everyone agreed that every second of the hard work we've put in over the last few weeks was worth it !

Everyone in school is feeling incredibly proud of the children who proved once again how much they are capable of.
We've all got some wonderful memories that we'll take with us into the future.

    These quotes sum everything up:

"I loved the experience and want to do the whole thing again,"
    Samuel (The Lone Ranger)

"The experience has been amazing and I hope I do a lot more acting,"
    Izzy (Dixie Doppelganger)

We're all having a well earned rest now and we hope that everyone has a great Christmas.

Watch out for the DVD which will be available in the new year
and in the meantime here's a taster .....
  • Nativity 2013

    Wed 18 Dec 2013
The children in Key stage one have been busy this term learning their lines and practising songs and dances for the Nativity Play. This year the play was 'The Old Man's Tale' the Christmas story told by an Old Man who met Mary and Joseph as a young boy as they travelled to Bethlehem. The children have been writing their thoughts about the play.

"I learnt to do my lines by keeping them in my head. I was really nervous but I done my best. I was as loud as I could be when it was my turn to speak. We did it i the Memorial Hall because the church was too small." Eden.

"When it was the school play I was nervous. I was a kid. When the play was over I was proud of myself" Oscar.

"I was really nervous but it turned out really good. I liked it when the Old Man and the Old Man Rhyme Prompter slapped hands. I felt really proud. I was really happy." Jolie.

"When it was the Nativity Play I was nervous and when I done it I was proud of myself. I was Narrator 2 and when I got home my mummy and daddy said well done." Sam.

"I was a bit nervous so I pretended that they wasn't there and then at the end I liked it." Chelsea.

'When I done the nativity I felt nervous. My parents were here. I felt like there were butterflies in my tummy, but I forgot I was scared. When I got home my mum was proud." Lana.

We had the perfect start to Christmas this Saturday when we took over sixty children down to the village square for Bradworthy's annual turning on of the Christmas Lights.

We had a great time thanks to everyone who was able to give their time to come along.
  • Firing

    Sat 07 Dec 2013

Philip Leech came in to our school to teach us how to do sawdust firing.

He is a famous potter in North Devon and he came in to our school to show us how to make a sawdust kiln.

First we put sawdust in the bottom of the metal bin, then we put the pots on top of the sawdust. We kept repeating this over and over again until it got to the top of the metal bin,  then we put some Newspaper and sticks in. We used matches to light the fire.

The next day we went out side to see if our pots were  done. The top of the bin was done but the bottom was not. We try to light it again but it did not work at first.

We have had fun and we have learned a lot with Phillip.

  • Mrs Recycle

    Fri 06 Dec 2013

On Thursday 5th December, Mrs Recycle visited lots of the classes in school. She came to tell us about recycling and pollution. She showed us a picture of the beautiful Torrington commons and a landfill site, clashing together. She said “if we don’t recycle more, the next lot of rubbish will have to go on Torrington commons.”

First, Mrs Recycle showed us a recycling bin, a food waste pot and cardboard recycling bag. Next, she said to us “we`re going to build a storyboard.” So she split us into our literacy groups and we numbered ourselves one, two , three, four, five and six. Mrs Recycle gave us cards saying glass, fabric, plastic, paper and cardboard.

After that ,Mrs Recycle gave us pictures of the thing that make the materials we had. Then , she gave us pictures of lorries and boats travelling to where they were going to made. She then gave us little warning signs.

Finally, Mrs recycle finished off with saying “recycle more things to stop pollution.” We all enjoyed learning the three Rs which are: reduce, reuse and recycle.
