  • Dartmoor - July 2018

    Tue 31 Jul 2018

Our intrepid explorers were out again on Dartmoor at the end of July in some glorious sunshine.  They were camping at Cullever Steps for 2 nights so had to cook/prepare their own breakfast, lunch and Tea.

On the first day, after setting up camp, they were set a 7 mile navigational challenge in groups and set upon their way stopping  at checkpoints on the way before regrouping to walk back to camp, a task completed  fantastically by all.  They then cooked their evening meals before going off to enjoy the evening by the river.

The second day , after eating breakfast and preparing their lunch they set of on a small circular walk across a very dry Dartmoor.  Nearing the end of the walk they came across Dinger Tor , which they remembered from one of the training walks as having a snowdrift nearly the full height of the Tor, which you can see from the pictures is fairly tall!

Once back at camp they were told how many miles they had walked that day and to their astonishment they had completed a 19 mile circular walk in one day!  An absolutely outstanding achievement.  Surprisingly they still had enough energy left to play by the river in the evening , unlike the accompanying adults who were more than happy to sit down and relax!

On the third day  they packed up camp and left the moor, but there was one more surprise, they had to walk out to the minibus , which Sir had kindly moved to Meldon Reservoir, just a short leisurely 5 miles or so away!

A fantastic achievement by all the children involved in all the walks on Dartmoor this year , especially the three day camp which had a final tally of a whopping 30 miles , a new school record!

  • Class 5 Visit Appledore Shipbuilders

    Mon 30 Jul 2018

At the end of July 2018, the children in Class Five were lucky enough to be invited to tour the latest Naval Ship being built at Appledore Shipbuilders.  We spent the morning being shown around the vessel prior to her Sea Trials, and enjoyed finding out more about the ship and all of her systems.  Everyone enjoyed our sneak peeks in the engine room, and our introduction to the key plumbing and electrical systems.  We were also given a fantastic tour of the ship's bridge, and an Irish Naval Officer explained to us how all of the systems work together to ensure the ship runs smoothly.

We all had a fabulous morning exploring the ship, and would like to say a huge thank you to Appledore Shipbuilders and the Irish Navy for all of their help and for making us feel so welcome!

  • Bradworthy's Got Talent

    Fri 27 Jul 2018

We were once again treated to a spectacular display of talent in July, when we held our talent competition ‘Bradworthy’s Got Talent’. Over the course of a performance filled day we saw an enormous range of talents, from singing, instrumental playing, gymnastics, dancing, rock bands, comedy displays and a contortionist! For the first time ever, the votes were cast and we had a draw for the top spot, between the Year 5 Rock Band, and Lucy Baker our resident contortionist!

We would like to congratulate everyone that took part in this year’s competition, we can’t wait to see what will be in store next year!

  • Sports Day 2018

    Wed 25 Jul 2018

Our annual sports day took place in July, and we were treated to two action packed days.  All of our pupils were able to compete in races, and matches, along with a full athletics programme for the children in Key Stage Two. Over the course of the two days we were incredibly impressed with the attitude and sportsmanship demonstrated by all of the children, and would like to congratulate them all for doing such a good job.

A special mention must go to Thomas Polhill who broke the school high jump record in spectacular fashion.  After clearing the record height on his third and final jump, he then continued to make one successful jump after another, finally finishing the competition with a whopping 1 metre 40 centimetres!

This year’s Sports Day Champions were the Magpies, who gained the most points across all competitions within the Key Stage 1 and 2 events.   Congratulations to the Magpies for a well deserved victory!

    Day Four Update.......

The group have had a brilliant day today.  First they explored the Tate Modern, followed by Shakespeare's Globe where they took part in a 'Macbeth' workshop.   They finished their day at St. Paul's Cathedral and everyone made it to the very top of the dome to enjoy the views of the London Skyline.   This evening the group are enjoying another theatre trip, this time to see The Woman in Black.

Thank you all for your comments!

    Wed 11 Jul 2018

Hi everyone.  It's 8pm on Day Three, and the group are currently watching Matilda in the West End.  They have had another busy day, exploring Westminster Abbey this morning, followed by a River Cruise, and the afternoon at the Tower of London.   The children all enjoyed their time bowling last night - although I think the majority enjoyed watching the football instead!!  As you can see from the pictures they are very busy, but having a lot of fun!!

Hello everyone.  Here are some pictures from what has been an incredibly action packed day.  The adventures started at the Houses of Parliament, where the children had the opportunity to chose their own manifestos and elect their constituents.  The group then moved on to the London Dungeons and the Shrek Experience, finishing up with the Natural History Museum.  After dinner and a quick rest they are .......

Hi everyone! Mrs T here with a quick update.  Our Year Sixes have had a very busy (and hot!) day in London.  They have explored the London Eye, and the National Gallery, with some added sightseeing thrown in!   This evening they have headed to the cinema, with the added bonus of some street entertainment on their way!  Goodness knows whether the children or the entertainers were more amused!!

  • Year 4 Eden Project

    Fri 06 Jul 2018

The children in Year Four have been learning about the Rainforest environment as part of their Summer Term topic.  To support this work they recently visited the Eden Project, where they were able to investigate and explore the Rainforest Environment in great depth.   During the visit the children were able to get up close with plants and other features of a Rainforest habitat, and they certainly found some interesting facts and information!

  • Steel Drums

    Tue 03 Jul 2018

During the Summer Term we have been lucky enough to borrow the Steel Drums from Devon Music Services.  We all enjoyed exploring the different sounds and the range of instruments in a steel band, and the children in our older classes were able to continue with the performances they started last year, learning songs such as Oh When The Saints.  Everyone enjoyed having a go on the drums, and hopefully we will be able to explore them again next year!
