  • Gymnastics at Kingsley College

    Sun 27 Mar 2011

Bradworthy Academy puts great emphasis on sport and sporting achievement. We have had a very long tradition of mass participation and over the years we’ve had a lot of sporting success at local and county level in sports like rugby, cricket, football and netball.

The academy also provides an extensive programme of activities, such as climbing, hill walking, kayaking, sailing and surfing but even by these standards the gymnastics competition at Kingsley College on Saturday 26th March was an incredible success and probably the best day of sports achievement that we have ever experienced.

Over fifty children competed in the under seven, under nine and under eleven competitions and their results were amazing.

In both individual and team events we achieved ten gold medals, five silver medals, three bronze medals and three special awards.

Several team gold medals were won by the academy’s novice teams which are made up of gymnasts who only do an hour of gymnastics each week. These included our under seven girls’ team, our under nine girls’ team, our under nine mixed team and our under eleven boys’ team.

At the higher intermediate level we won gold in the under nine mixed competition.

In the novice competition individual gold medals were won by Sophie (under seven girls), Josh (under nine boys), Anya (under nine girls) and Stanley (under eleven boys), and in the higher level intermediate competition Peter put in an outstanding effort to win gold in the under nine age range.

As well as taking first place in the mixed intermediate competition our under nine team also took the award for the best musical interpretation which was an excellent achievement because they were chosen from every team in every age category.

Jasmine, who is a member of this team, earned her third medal of the day when she was voted the most promising gymnast of the day.

The final award of the day was given to our team of coaches who were given the award for the biggest contribution to gymnastics.

Kerry, Michelle and Sara have worked incredibly hard over the last year to get the academy’s children to the standard that they are at and they have also given the children a lot of enjoyment and we are all very grateful to them.

  • Cross Country Running at Kingsley

    Fri 25 Mar 2011
Spring came to Bideford this Friday when we took part in this year's cross country running event at Kingsley College.

It was the sort of wonderful hot day that is perfect for sitting back and watching the World go by - but much less perfect for running 2400m which is what we had to do !!!

The fields were huge with over 200 runners in some of the races and it is great that so many of our runners managed to finish in the top 50s.
Our highest placed runner was Douglas who finished 19th in the boys Under Eleven's Race.

  • Class One Farm Trip

    Tue 22 Mar 2011
Our topic this term is all about animals so on Monday 22nd March Class One went to Blackberry Farm which is the home of Lizzy's Larder.
The children made fresh fruit smooties, had a farm tour and learnt about the animals on the farm and the food that we eat at home.
The children all had a fantastic time and we even got cakes at the end of the morning!
  • Year 6 Science Trip

    Tue 22 Mar 2011
Year Six visited the Environmental Research Centre at North Wyke, near Okehampton, this week and we had a great time leaning about soil and rocks.
We got to use some powerful microscopes, make a fossil and do some exciting experiments.
We also learnt all about potential energy and kinetic energy and the science that lets rockets work. Once we new what we were doing we built rockets and fired them to see who could get theirs furthest.

We're going to follow this visit up by going to Hartland Quay next week to look at the rock formations which are there. We'll put some information on the Year Six web-page when we've done this.
  • Red Nose Day

    Mon 21 Mar 2011

As usual we have been supporting Red Nose Day.
The chaos ended in the traditional way with a "proper old fashoned gunging" !!!

In addition to the raffle that we held to choose the children who would carry out the "gunging" we had fancy dress and a "silly dance competition".

We'd like to thank everyone for sending in thousands of cakes for us to sell.

You'll have to check out the web-site again on Monday to find out how much money we raised.

  • North Devon Netball Finals

    Thu 17 Mar 2011
Our Netball are unbeaten in the local Holsworthy league and have been having a brilliant season.

We also qualified for the North Devon Finals which took place last week on 17th March. This is the first time we've been in the North Devon Finals and although we unfortunately suffered our first defeat of the season we finished in third place which is brilliant.

Hopefully a proper report by a team member will appear here soon.
  • Year 4 Bristol Trip

    Wed 16 Mar 2011

This is our Class on the foredeck of the SS Great Britain on our day trip to Bristol last week (Wednesday 16th Mach).
We've been learning about the Titanic in school but the Titanic isn't very easy to visit so we decided that the SS Great Britain was next best.

We also visited @Bristol to find out about science.
