  • Table Tennis and Tennis Clubs

    Tue 31 May 2011
This is Adam slaughtering Mr Furber in a table tennis challenge in assembly this week.
Obviously Adam has been attending our recent club and Mr Furber hasn't played since 1485 when he was about seven - in other words it was hardly a fair match.

The table tennis club has gone really well so its going to continue after half term.
There is also going to be a chance to do some tennis.

Please use the following comment box to let us know that your child / children would
like to take part in either:

    1. table tennis club on a Wednesday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
    2. tennis club on a day which has yet to be organised.

The school will be paying for these free clubs so all we will be asking the children who
sign up is that they commit to trying to come every week, unless of course something crops up.

  • North Devon Cricket Festival

    Mon 30 May 2011
Gale force winds were waiting for us when we arrived at the North Devon Cricket Club at Instow on Thursday afternoon but despite the terrible weather we had a great time. There were twenty schools at the festival which was a record and we were really please with our effort which took us to fourth place.

Our only defeat of the afternoon came against Newport School from Barnstaple who went on to win the competition. The match was close and one of those where the catches don't quite go to hand and the run outs don't quite come off - however their batting was just a bit too strong and I think that the better team won.

Our final match was against Witheridge School who had beaten our under ten side last week and we were delighted to get some revenge with a ten run victory.
The mach could have gone either way as we got into the last couple of overs but our final batting pair were able to pull away with a excellent over of defence and then a couple of fours in the last over.
  • Bideford School's Football Rally

    Wed 25 May 2011

    The ‘B’ teams finest hour!

On Wednesday 25th May,  Bradworthy Academy entered two teams in the Torridge Schools Football Festival at Sandymere, Northern Burrows.

The way these competitions usually work out is that it starts with all the school’s A teams beating the B teams and then they all  battle it out for the cup while the B teams compete in the plate competition. However, somebody forgot to mention this to our B team and so, while the Academy A team won five matches and progressed  smoothly to the semi-finals of the cup, the B team also won their matches and made it to the semi finals of the cup competition as well !

Then our A team were narrowly beaten by a last gasp winner from West Croft A team before unbelievably our B team won their semi-final by beating Abbotsham after a nail biting penalty shootout!
Although the B team were unable to repeat these heroics in the final it still meant that they finished as runners up, while our A team were third! Both excellent achievements!

Although all the boys performed magnificently I am sure none of them will mind us giving a special mention for Ross  our goalkeeper who was quite simply magnificent! As well as saving two penalties he performed with tremendous skill and bravery in every match and as a result he took home a medal plus several cuts, bumps and bruises.

Academy A team – Olly, Matt, Callum, Douglas, Linus, Oscar and Josh.
Academy B team – Ross, Luke, Bertie, Adam, Wills, Natty, Casper and Owen.

  • Shebbear Football Rally

    Sun 22 May 2011

On Saturday 21st May we entered three teams in the Small  Schools Football tournament at Shebbear College and proved to have a very successful day. Our B team made it to the semi finals of their competition before losing to the tournament winners and hosts Shebbear. Our A team were also beaten narrowly by the college team before going on to win the plate competition after a tense penalty shoot out.

However, on this occasion it was our girls who stole the day by beating both Halwill and Shebbear College to become tournament champions

Our teams for the tournament were:

A team + plate winners – Olly, Callum, Matt, Douglas, Oscar, Will and Stanley.

B team – Ross, David, Casper, Brandon, Adam, Bertie and Owen.

Girls team + Champions – Charlotte, Cara, Libby, Lucy, Holly, Ellie and Shannon.

  • Thorpe Park

    Sat 21 May 2011

Day Five of our Year Six residential trip to London brought our weary bodies to Thorpe Park where the adrenaline instantly kicked in and we enabeled us to spend eight hours tearing from ride to ride.

This shows us on Stealth after an hour long queue which was worth every second.
It was taken by Miss Daniel and is definitely the photo of the week.
The photos show the excitement ad terror of the rides - lunch - and more excitement and terror.
We got back to school at 11.30pm and I. for one, had along lie in !!!

  • Year Six London Trip

    Fri 20 May 2011

    Day Five -
We've finally made it to the morning of day five !!!
Everyone slept very well (which isn't surprising) and we're fresh and ready for Thorpe Park.
See you all tonight at about 11.30pm.
(If we're running late we'll ring)

    Day Four Update !!!
It's just gone eleven and the children are settling down after gettng back from the bowling - if you want to know who won go to the bottom of the page.
Just got back to  the hostel. Tea and a rest before bowling at nine !
(more photos and info from the day below)
We went to the theatre last night to see Wicked. It was fantastic and we got back really late. Everyone slept very well !!!
We're just about to leave the hostel to go to St Paul's. The next update will be later on when we get back.
    (photos below)

Our Year Six children are on their residential trip this week (from Monday 16th May) and as we're in London we've got internet access.
This means we're going to be able to keep everyone up-to-date with what we're doing.

    Day One -
We set off in the minibus at 7.00am and by 1.00pm we were on the London Eye which was a great way to start because we got to see the whole of London in one go.
When we had finished our ride we walked over Westminster Bridge and looked at the statue of Boudica and then went past Parliament. We walked through Whitehall, past The Cenataph, Downing Street and into Horse Guard's Parade.
Our second visit was to the National Gallery which is on Trafalgar Square.
In the evening we went to the cinema in Notting Hill.

    Day Two -
    Another early start !!!
We ate our packed breakfast in the park and arrived at Parliament in time for the start of our tour at 9.00am. It was fantastic to find out about how our country is run and the amazing history of such an important place.
We then walked  up to Buckingham Palace where we watched the Changing of the Guards before having lunch and a gymnastics session in Green Park.
In the afternoon we went to the science museum and after tea we went ice skating.

    Day Three -
We used the underground to travel from Kensington (where the Youth Hostel is) to Tower Hill where we had a great time finding out about imprisonment, torture and execution in the Tower.
We were told some gruesome stories by our guide and we had to be really good because he had an axe !!!
We also saw the Crown Jewels and the armour in the White Tower before we travelled up the Thames and caught another train to the Natural History Museum.
The dinosaurs were very cool and reminded us of one of the teachers we've left back in school - bet you can't guess who we're talking about !!
We're all getting excited about going to the theatre after tea.
Check the site again later for more news.

    Day Four -
The underground took us to St Paul's Cathedral which was amazing but we can't show you anything from the inside because we weren't allowed to take photos.
The views from the top were even better than the views from the London Eye but we had to work a lot harder to see them - over 5oo steps !
After this we crossed the Millennium Bridge to get to The Globe Theatre and then went to the Dr Who Experience at Olympia.

The Globe theatre was especially cool because the actors were rehearsing on the stage for their latest play which is going to open in a few weeks time. This must have given us a lot of inspiration because the drama workshop went really well. The actor who worked with us was amazed by our talent.
The Dr Who experience was great - the only problem was that we were a bit worried that Georgia might die from the excitement.

    Bowling Report -
Before you get the results I hope you'll appreciate the amazing action shot which shows the ball flying down the alley - I know its sad but its made me happy !!!

    Results:
    First - Miss Daniel ( 119 points )
    Second - Dani ( 107 points )
    Third - Erin ( 103 )

I guess this shows that girl power is alive and well at Bradworthy !!

  • Royal Wedding Celebration

    Sun 15 May 2011

To share in the Royal Wedding celebrations, the children and parents from Bradworthy Academy gave their annual Craft Fayre a Royal Wedding theme. On display were a range of exhibits made by the children including model carriages, crowns, royal plates, wedding cupcakes, miniature gardens, menus for the wedding breakfast and invitations to the big day.

Our Brass Band opened the fayre and the children in Year Six acted as hosts to everyone who came to look - welcoming them and serving the cakes and biscuits which they had prepared for the event.

It was a tough job for the judges, but in the end four overall winners were selected. Erika in the 4-5 age range, Phoebe 6-7 years, David 8-9 years and Brandon in the 10-11 age range.

  • Music Grades

    Sat 14 May 2011
We run a very successful brass band in school and as a part of this the children are able to benefit from free tuition.
The photo shows Erin, Molly and Douglas who have just taken, and passed, their Grade Two Music Exams.
We think that this is a great achievement.
