Our fantastic PTA organised a Halloween Disco for all of the children in school, which took place on the 17th October. Everyone enjoyed dancing the night away, and the hall looked fantastic in it’s Halloween decorations. These included pumpkins which each class and our gardening club had carved, which certainly added a spooky atmosphere to the evening.
We would like to thank everyone on the PTA who helped to organise the disco, giving the children such a wonderful evening!
It was wonderful to see so many parents joining us in the Church on Tuesday 15th October to celebrate our Harvest Festival. We were able to enjoy a morning of songs, stories and readings to share and enjoy this special time of year. Our younger children were able to perform the classic ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy’ with gusto, and it was fantastic to hear our newly formed rock band performing almost all of the songs we sang, and taking the lead to perform ‘Wagon Wheel’ as their first official performance of the school year.
On Friday 11th October we held our Macmillan Coffeee morning, and the Great Bradworthy Bake Off. The hall was packed full of wonderful cakes, which were judged by our expert panel. Janet and Tara from the kitchen helped to judge each of the cakes this year, along with Rose and Mrs Brauns. Once the cakes had been judged they were sold at a bake sale for the school, followed by a coffee morning for parents and the wider community. It was wonderful to see the hall packed full of people, all of whom enjoyed the delicious cakes available, and helped to raise a fabulous amount of money for Macmillan, a cause which is very close to our hearts in school.
At the end of our Coffee morning we were pleased to have Sir and Janet present the trophies and prizes to the winning cakes and bakers. The prizes were awarded as follows:
Best Biscuits - Lissie Davis
Best Chocolate Bake - Rebecca Lukins
Best Fruit & Veg Bake - Florence Bennett
Best Citrus Bake - Bradley Starr
Best Savoury Bake - Louie Piper
Best Free From Bake - Amelia Lukins
Overall Star Baker - Olivia Daniel
As you can see, we had a mix of age ranges winning the prizes, although Olivia has created a new record by winning the coveted Star Baker trophy for two years running!
We must say a huge thank you to Teena and Mrs Brauns for all of their hard work putting the Bake Off together, to Janet, Tara and Rose for so kindly judging all of the cakes, to Year Six for helping to serve the cakes, and for serenading us all, to our fantastic PTA for providing refreshments, and to everyone who donated cakes or money towards the event. I am thrilled to be able to tell you that we raised an amazing £509.74 throughout the day, which is a fantastic achievement!
On Monday 7th October we were incredibly lucky to have a visit in school from Tom Mclaughlin, an author who lives in Devon. This visit was arranged by our librarian Kymble, in conjunction with the Appledore Book Festival.
The children in Years One, Two and Three enjoyed an assembly where Tom talked about his picture books, and how he creates them. Our older children had an assembly with Tom where we learned about his inspiration, and his characters and illustrations. Our reception children were lucky enough to have Tom read the class a story, before he was busily signing over 70 books for pupils and for our school library!
