  • Penzance 2015

    Thu 30 Apr 2015

Hello again everyone!   The trip has now finished and everyone is safely back at home.   We had an amazing day at Crealy yesterday, and as the photos below show, we made the most of the opportunities to run, play and explore!  (I imagine the children all slept well last night)!

Throughout the trip I have been incredibly proud of these children.  Their maturity, positive attitude and continued enthusiasm has meant that the adults on the trip have had the most amazing time.   Everyone that we have met has been blown away by their politeness and outstanding behaviour, along with their eagerness to learn.   They have been a real credit to the school and their families, and I hope they are very proud of themselves.

After such a fabulous experience I need to thank not only the children, for making it so much fun, but also the staff who accompanied us and worked so hard!   Thank you very much Helen, Caroline and Alex - you have been amazing and I really appreciate everything you have done!   I hope all of the children are enjoying a well earned rest, and look forward to seeing them all in school on Monday!

  • Police Visit

    Thu 30 Apr 2015
It was great to see our Community Police Officers when they came in over lunch last week.
We think that it's really important to get to know them and to find out a bit about the work that they do to help everyone who lives in Bradworthy.
They showed us how to take finger prints and gave us some fun activities and stickers.
We're looking forward to seeing them again soon.
  • El-Shaddai

    Thu 30 Apr 2015

We are all feeling very proud of Symi, in Year Six, who organised a fundraising day for a charity called El-Shaddai. She arranged for a visiting speaker to come in so we knew waht the whole things was all about and sorted out a non-uniform / curry day which raised £300.
The following has been written by Symi:

Last Month, in May, there was a non-school uniform day for a charity out in India called El-Shaddai.

El-Shaddai help kids that are living on the streets and families living in the slums. They bring them in and give them a lovely curry which is one of the only proper meals that these families get.

El-Shaddai also provide people with clothes and schools for children, ad even homes for those who need them.

On our non-school uniform day we had a “veggie” curry for lunch to represent what the kids in India have.

I think, throughout the whole day, we had an amazing time.

    Wed 29 Apr 2015

Hello again!  It's almost Midnight on Day Two and everyone is absolutely fast asleep! We have had an amazing evening at Laser Quest, and everyone loved having a go!  The bad news is noone managed to beat Mrs Turner's score this evening so she won her bet!   However, we all know there will still be ice creams at Crealy tomorrow!!  We are all nearly packed and excited about a fun packed day at Crealy tomorrow - and looking forward to seeing you all back at school at 6pm!

  • Dartmoor Training 2015

    Wed 29 Apr 2015

Our annual "Ten Tors Challenge" is only a few weeks away so we're back in training.

Last week we spent two days on the moor taking part in training walks. Each of these involved twelve mile walks across the open moor. As well as giving giving us a chance to work on our fitness levels, ahead of the twenty-five mile root that the final challenge involves, these walks also gave us a chance to develop the navigation skills that we'll need.

We've got a couple of training events to go before the final challenge.

  • Bird Boxes

    Mon 27 Apr 2015

On Monday 27th April Class Six and I went to Julian’s Farm to look at some rare habitats and to help the wildlife that was in this environment by building some boxes for them to nest in. It was really fun on the farm.

The first thing we did when we got there was dip our feet in disinfectant made from iodine and water. This was to make sure we didn’t infct the land with anything form outside. We started of with assembling some “habitat houses” which were for little mammals and birds. One of the bird boxes had metal on the front.

After this Year Six went on a habitat hunt. The first things we found were a couple of butterflies, a lizard, some frogs and lots of caterpillars.

We’re going to go back in a few weeks when the caterpillars have metamorphosised into rare butterflies called Marsh Fritillaries – you only find them on Culm Grass.

Finally we made our way back to the farm to have a late lunch and after this we went back to school.

I’ve learnt about where caterpillars live but my favourite part was assembling the boxes.

  • Braunton Athletics

    Sun 26 Apr 2015

For the first time ever children from our school took part in a Devon County Athletics Competition.
It was held in Braunton last weekend and as well as having a brilliant time we also had a lot of success.

Here are our “top ten” finishes at Braunton on Sunday:

Girls’ 600m – First and Fifth

Girls’ 75m – Second and Ninth

Girls’ Vortex Throw (beginner javelin) – Second, Third, Fifth and Seventh

Girls’ Long Jump – Sixth and Ninth

    Boys’ 600m – Fifth

    Boys’ 75m – Ninth

    Boys’ Vortex Throw – Fifth

    Boys’ Long Jump – Tenth

These are an amazing set of results for a county level event and everyone is very proud of our team. We’re looking forward to the next event which is in Plymouth next month.
