  • Bradworthy Football League

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Elliot Lewis

On a series of Monday nights this half term we took some footballers to play in three fixtures against Shebbear, Langtree and Monkleigh in a miniature football league, in the same style and location as the netball league.

The games were played on a muga, with balls off the side in a cage style match, 5 players per team with roll on, roll off subs.

    Our results were a success:

    Bradworthy 3-0 Shebbear

    Bradworthy 2-2 Langtree

    Bradworthy 4-0 Monkleigh

The results lead to us winning the league above second placed Shebbear by 1 point.

This was a great chance to get some regular football, we are hoping to continue this next year with some more schools taking part to extend the competition.

    Well done team!!

  • Indoor Athletics Competition

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Elliot Lewis

On the 21st of March I took 12 students to compete in an Indoor Athletics Competition with 15 other schools at Bideford College.

The children each took part in 6 events, 2 running events in which they were timed in teams of 3, one lap of the hall followed by 2 laps of the hall.

After this they moved onto the field events, which were standing long jump, chest throw, standing high jump and speed bounce.

I'd love to be able to tell you how well we did, but the tournament was ran in peculiar, fashion, our results were collected by Bideford College students, who I must say did an excellent job at running the event, then were handed in to the tournament organisers who collated the data.

At the end of the day, they told us the top 3 schools, which we weren't one of, but didn't read out the rest of the positions and as of yet we haven't received our data to know how well we did in comparison to the other schools.

All in all, the children really enjoyed their day out competing in a range of activities, I would like to thank the parents who accompanied me for the day as well, as always your support for us in all sporting events is greatly appreciated.

  • North Devon Netball Finals

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Elliot Lewis

On the 9th of March our superstar netball team travelled to Park School in Barnstaple to compete in the North Devon Netball finals.

There were 3 groups of 5 teams, our group featured teams from Halwill, Bishops Tawton, South Molton, Woolacombe and ourselves.

We had a barnstorming start to the day, beating Woolacombe 6-0 in our opener, followed on by a  whopping 10-0 against Halwill.

After a quick break, we had a tight draw against South Molton, 2-2, coming back from 2-0 down, our dominance returned in the final group game against Bishops Tawton, which we won 7-1.

We progressed strongly into the semi finals, where we met a very tough Our Lady's team, a close thought game had us finish 3-1 putting us into a threeway finale group with Sticklepath and Caen.

Unfortortunately for us, the top 2 progressed to the county finals and we finished third, losing 9-4 to a very impressive Sticklepath and 3-1 to Caen, the Caen fixture was really close, if our rotation grid had allowed for George Stephens, our top goalscorer of the day and the season, to play either half in a forward position, we would have won comfortably, but sadly with the way Bee Netball works, we are restricted to the rotation grid and it fell as it did.

That's not to say I am not incredibly proud of our players, all of which worked so hard to reach this tournament and played to an excellent standard.

Third in North Devon is the best we have ever reached as a Netball team since the introduction of the county finals system, we came up against huge schools from the Barnstaple, Braunton and Woolacombe areas and seriously dominated throughout the day.

    Congratulations team!

  • Gliddon and Squire Cross Country Finals

    Sun 05 Mar 2023 Becki

Over thirty of our cross country runners attended the final race of the Gliddon and Squire series today, at West Buckland School.

We saw some amazing individual and team performances, and every single child who ran should be feeling incredibly proud of themselves for their effort.

Following the final race the league presentation took place.  All but one of our children qualified for their medals, having completed at least 4 of the 6 races.  In addition to this George in Year Five came 3rd in the Under 11 individual competition, which is a fantastic achievement!  Our Under 11 Boys team also gained third place in the team competition, and the ‘Bradworthy Old Boys’ team made up of former students, gained an impressive silver medal in their age range competition, beating teams from athletics clubs!

We are feeling incredibly proud of all of our runners, who have showed real grit and determination throughout the season on challenging courses and in difficult conditions.  A huge well done to everyone who took part!

  • Under 11s Girls Football

Thu 02 Mar 2023 Elliot Lewis

On the first of March some of the girls from years 5 and 6 went to Kingsley College in Bideford to take part in a football tournament.

The girls performed fantastically well, winning four games and drawing one in the group stage, scoring ten goals and only conceding one.

Unfortunately we lost out 2-0 in the semi final, the team played really well but two quickfire goals from the opposition gave us too much to do to get back into it.

I am really pleased with how well the team did, they played some excellent football, attacking and defending as a team, showing confidence on the ball to get past players and get shots away whenever they could.

    Well done team!
