In literacy, class 5 have been working on a poem called Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll.
This poem is a nonsense poem ,about a boy who went in to the woods in search of a Jabberwock. It has imaginary beasts in it such as Borogoves, Jub Jub bird, Slithy Toves and the Jabberwock (of course!) It has also got imaginary plants including the Tum Tum tree.
On the 13th of September we went to Rosemoor gardens. We went to Rosemoor to become Jabberwock hunters. At Rosemoor we found evidence of the Jabberwock. We found Jabberwock footprints, Jabberwock snot, Jabberwock’s victim’s blood and last but definitely not least Jabberwock dung. We took photos of the evidence we found to prove that Jabberwocks are real.
Ever since our visit to Rosemoor we have been learning about the Jabberwock in our literacy work.
Be careful when your in the woods and keep your eyes open for the Jabberwock!

Our Year 6 pupils have been involved in an exciting pottery project entitled “ A New England Cargo”
This was organised to celebrate the 17th Century trade in pottery with North America and a number of American and European potters were in Bideford to celebrate the event.
Our children made pots in the traditional North Devon style which were included with pots by professionals in a firing of the wood-fired bottle kiln outside the Burton Museum.
Some of our work will be on show at The Glove Factory in Appledore from 11am -5pm on Saturday and Sunday 28th and 29th September.

As anyone who has been in to school this term will have noticed a lot has been going on over the summer break and it’s fantastic to be able to say that everything is progressing exactly on schedule and that everything that needed to be, was ready for the start of term.
We've got to say that I think this an amazing achievement. We have been incredibly impressed with the teams of builders and the work that they have done over the last few weeks and everyone is very grateful to them for this.
As you can see preschool is now housed on our playground in a brand new, and purpose built, building. It’s brilliant that we are now able to offer our youngest children the sort of environment that they deserve and we would like to thank Chris Baldson’s team for their hard work getting it ready – on time and to such a high standard.
Roger Andrew’s team of builders have also been working hard in school over the summer completing a range of internal work connected to our new hall. If you’ve been up to school you’ll have seen that the steel work for this has been erected and it’s great to be able to report that everything is going so well.
We are hoping that the project will be complete by February half term.
Twenty One children from Year Six braved the recent heatwave to complete this year's "Ten Tors Challenge" which is our most extreme sporting event.
This year it involved walking around fifteen miles, navigating, camping and basically using the skills we have learned to survive in the wild on Dartmoor.
Before we went there was a lot of preparation.
We've been involved in four training walks and in addition to this we've also been learning camp skills on the school field.
We had to plan our meals and as you can see we went shopping on the way to the moor to get the things we would need.
Once on the moor we had to set up our campsite and do some final route preparations before heading off on our walks.
We took turns to lead the groups and this meant making sure we got where we needed to go and also looking after the safety of everyone else.
On the last morning we were told where the minibus left us. We were told where it was and had to sort ourselves out so that we could get to it and escape Dartmoor !!!
We had to cook for ourselves each evening .....
..... and having done this, and washed up, there was time for loads of fun "gorging" in the river which went past our camp site.
