  • Netball League 2022

Fri 20 Jan 2023 Elliot Lewis

    Happy New Year everybody,

apologies for the slow upload on this, we had a very successful run of fixtures resulting in a top of the league finish in the Torrington Netball League.

Over the course of four weeks we played against Langtree, Torrington Bluecoats, St Helens and Monkleigh.

The five-aside league was very competitive, our players played some excellent possession based play with quick interchanging of position and passing that allowed our forwards to score some excellent points, the scoring was shared amongst the team, as is the case with the rotational nature of the game.

    The results:

    Bradworthy 5-0 Langtree

    Bradworthy 6-0 Torrington Bluecoats

    Bradworthy 7-3 St Helens

    Bradworthy 5-0 Monkleigh.

The final match against Monkleigh was called off at half time due to some insane weather, the court got flooded by a freak rainstorm accompanied by some vicious winds, Monkleigh were offered the chance to replay at a later date or call the fixture as it is, fortunately they called it there and then, due to our already dominant scoreline.

Well done team, Mr Lapham and I are very proud of all who played for the team, their effort and enthusiasm levels have been superb, hopefully more to come!

  • Netball Tournament at Great Torrington

Thu 19 Jan 2023 Elliot Lewis

On Monday the 16th of January 7 children from years 5 and 6 travelled to Great Torrington secondary school to take part in a Netball tournament.

The players performed well in the group stage and reached the final, the tournament was played in an usual format in which there were two groups, the two top teams were automatically placed into the final, no knockout rounds. w

This was fortunate for us as we drew our first game against St Helens after being 2-0 down, they like us won their other two games in the group, but we progressed on goal difference after an impressive 8-0 thumping of Westcroft.

Unfortunately we narrowly lost the final 1-0 to Langtree, we had the chances to score but couldn't quite put the game away.

Despite this the day didn't end in disappointment as the players were presented with the trophy that they won from the Netball League which you can read all about in our other article.

    Well done team!

  • Six - The Musical

    Wed 18 Jan 2023 Becki

Following a very busy term of topic work based on the Tudors, Class Six were thrilled to be able to visit the Theatre Royal in Plymouth, to watch Six the musical.  This is a musical based on the Henry VIII's six wives, and everyone was very excited.  The class were all hooked on catchy songs and dance moves, and we have seen several repeat performances in school!

While they were at the theatre the children received several compliments based on their amazing behaviour, manners and engagement with the performance, and we are incredibly proud of them for the way they handled themselves throughout the trip!

  • Summer BBQ - 2022

    Tue 17 Jan 2023 Richard

Thank you to our incredible PTA for all of their hard work putting on this year's Summer BBQ.

Everyone had a great time and, as well as burgers and beer and lots of leaping about on bouncy castles, there was also plenty of time for entertainment from our gymnastics display group, band and choir.

    Even the weather cooperated.

  • Great Bradworthy Bake Off !!!

    Tue 17 Jan 2023 Richard

An entry of  One Hundred and Thirty-Six Cakes !!!

    A new school record !!

We had chocolate cakes, citrus cakes, fruit cakes, biscuits, a free from section and savoury entries with medals for the best entry in each category.

The photo of a cake in the face was revenge for something terrible that Isabel did at Bradworthy's Got Talent - and revenge is always best served cold.

Our Star Baker was Lydia in Year Six but most importantly of all we raised several hundred pounds for Macmillan Cancer Research .... and got to eat loads of cake afterwards !!!

  • Surfing - Autumn 2022

    Tue 17 Jan 2023 Richard

Our Year Six children have been working with The Big Blue Surf School each week this half term and as you can see from the photos we're all getting pretty good !!!

  • England v. Iran - World Cup 2022

    Tue 17 Jan 2023 Richard

Never has more noise been generated in school than was generated this afternoon when the goals were raining in, in England's first match of the Qatar World Cup against Iran.

We held a non-uniform day and found a drum to help with the chanting and if this is anything to go by the levels of excitement are going to be impossible to cope with if England actually get somewhere in the competition.

I'm sure we could have competed with the 100,000 people at Wembley in 1966 !!!

  • Indoor Athletics

    Tue 17 Jan 2023 Richard

Another wonderful victory in this year's Torrington, Bideford and Holsworthy Area Sports Hall Athletics Competition this December.

Sports Hall Athletics involves things like "bounce board" relay races, chest throws, speed jumping and standing long jumps and it's amazing to think this is the third year running that we've come away with the trophy.

We've now progressed to the North Devon Finals which will be held in Barnstaple after Christmas and we're hoping to go one better than last year when we were runners up.

  • Remembrance - November 2022

    Tue 17 Jan 2023 Richard

We spent some time down at the War Memorial on the village square this Remembrance Day - as we always do.

The whole school attended a short service where we read some poems and told a true story about sacrifice during The First World War. We observed two minutes silence and read the names of local people who have given their lives for us.

It was lovely to be joined by a number of people from the village for what was a very moving few minutes of contemplation.

  • Wakeboarding - Autumn 2022

    Tue 17 Jan 2023 Richard

Our Year Six children have had a great time over at The North Devon Wake Park this Autumn.

They've been having weekly Wakeboarding lessons as part of our outdoor education programme which is a very exciting addition to all of the traditional sports that we spend so much of our time doing.
