    Wed 18 Jun 2014

It's 11pm on Day Two and everyone is fast asleep!

We have had a fantastic evening, exploring the harbour area of Bristol and finding out all about the pirate heritage of the city.  We have certainly heard about some exciting characters, and have enjoyed exploring the smugglers caves and pirate's favourite pubs!!

Everyone is looking forward to a fun filled day at Crealy tomorrow!

We will see you all tomorrow evening!!!

t's 6pm on day two and everyone is about to head in for dinner.

We have had a wonderful day at the Zoo and visiting the SS Great Britain.  The weather has been very kind all day, and we enjoyed a lovely lunch on the harbourside and a walk along the river this evening on our way back to the hostel.

Our Madagascar session at the Zoo was wonderful, and we all had the chance to hold or stroke cockroaches, snakes and Madagascan Tenrecs.  Mrs Carey and Mrs Turner also had a more hands on experience in the main zoo, but we will let the children tell you all about that!!

After lunch we visited the SS Great Britain where we were able to find out about particular passengers in our investigation workshop, and then explore the ship with a very knowledgeable tour guide!

We are now going to have some dinner before our Pirate Walk this evening.  Everyone has been practicing their aaaaarrrr's ready!!!

We will update again this evening when we get back.  Thank you for the messages - the children love hearing them!!

    Latest Update:

Its 11pm and everyone is tucked in and heading for sleep.  We have a fantastic yet exhausting day, and everyone is in very good spirits!!  We made it all the way to Bristol without any travel sickness, and the children have certainly eaten well!!  We have added some photos of our day, and will add more tomorrow when we get back from our adventures.  Thank you so much for all of our comments - we will read them to the children over breakfast in the morning!!

    Sat 14 Jun 2014

    Day Five:

We had a brilliant last day at Alton Towers before battling the motorways to get back at mid-night - exactly on time !!!

I think that everyone had an amazing week away.
I think that the children approached every aspect of the trip with enthusiasm and maturity, rising to all of the challenges that faced them and, speaking for myself, it was a real pleasure to be away with them all.

If this week is anything to go by we're going to have a great time next year when I teach them in Year Six.

    Day Four:

We've had another action packed day.
The photos are from the "gorging" which two of our groups did today.
As you can see it involved lots of climbing, and jumping and crawling through things - and all of this in a river gorge !!!
As has been the case all week the children had a challenging, exciting and wonderful time.
    The photos speak for themselves.

The third group went climbing and kayaking.
Unfortunately I haven't got any photos from them yet, but I'll put them on as soon as I do !

It's skiing tonight and Alton Towers tomorrow so there's plenty more excitement still to come !!

    Day Three:

We've just got back to the hostel having spent all day successfully climbing Snowdon.
Basically everyone is exhausted but delighted.
There's a real "buzz" in the hostel this evening !

The children were absolutely brilliant on the mountain and it was an absolute pleasure being out with them. Climbing Snowdon is a huge challenge for anyone, and it's especially amazing for children of such a young age. It just goes to show what children can achieve if they're given the chance !
The children are all feeling very proud of themselves - and we're certainly feeling incredibly proud of each and everyone of them.

Have a look at the video clips below and you'll see how they felt when they reached the top !!

We're having a much more relaxing evening tonight and heading for the cinema.
I wonder if anyone will stay awake !

    Thanks for all the messages.
I'll upload them so that the children can read them this evening before we go out.
Hopefully we'll be able to do the same tomorrow so keep leaving them.

    Day Two:

It's nearly tea time on day two.
We split into three groups today to go gorging, rock climbing and kayaking.
As you can see the sun shone down on us and we had a wonderfully challenging day.

It was our first experience of climbing outside and everyone managed to get to the top at Lion Rock where we also spent some time bouldering and scrambling.
The views were amazing and it was well worth the effort of getting all the way up.

Kayaking was great with loads of games and lots of "capsizing".
When the kayaks finally started to sink we abandoned them to rope swing and jump into the "lagoon".

After tea we're going down to the Beacon Climbing Wall to climb indoors.

We'll try to get some photos from this, and the the other groups activities today, on-line later on so keep checking back.

Now that this page is up and running you can start to leave messages for the children so please make sure you do !!!

    Day One:

Sorry you didn’t get any photos last night.

As expected we’ve got no internet connection at the hostel.
Fortunately we’ve found an internet cafe in Llanberis so we’re off and running.

As you can see we had a fantastic time at the Black Country Museum, even if the teacher in the Victorian Classroom was a bit strict.

Unfortunately the canal barge got stuck in the tunnel so two of our children had to walk it out.

The hostel has just reopened so everything is wonderfully new.

  • Bideford Schools' Rally

    Thu 12 Jun 2014
As you can see from the photo our A-Team won a trophy when they went over to Sandymere for the Bideford School's Rally this May.
They beat St Helen's B-Team 1 - 0 after extra time in the semi-finals and Appledore 3 - 2 in a very exciting final to win the plate competition.
It goes without saying that we're delighted.
  • £ 1700

    Tue 10 Jun 2014
Molly (in Year Six) cut her beautiful long hair short recently in support of North Devon Hospice.

As a result of this she has raised a truly incredible £1700 which is an absolute tribute to her hard work and desire to help others.

The photo shows her presenting the money this week and we'd like to put on record how enormously impressed everyone in school is of Molly.
We all hope that she is feeling as proud of herself as we are feeling proud of her.
  • Vintage Rally 2014

    Tue 10 Jun 2014
Our wonderful brass band performed at the Vintage Rally which was held on Holsworthy Show Ground this Saturday.
It was a great experience for both our older children, who've performed many times over the years, and especially for some younger children who were performing outside school for the very first time.
  • Reception Bug Hunt

    Mon 09 Jun 2014
Our Reception children have been over to Rosemoor Gardens for a Bug Hunt this week.
We're not sure what sot of bug was living behind this green door but it must have been huge - and since everyone got back safely, friendly too !!!
  • Sponsored Walk 2014

    Mon 09 Jun 2014

We're raising money for lighting equipment for our new hall so we're hoping that this year's sponsored walk around the Tamar Lakes will be a very successful fund raiser.

The whole school took part and despite the fact that it started to rain ten minutes after we started our walk, and then rained all day, we had a good time.

Our free ice-creams (which had to be served back at school) were very well earned !

  • West Down House

    Sun 08 Jun 2014
Year Six spent a very wet morning looking around the beautiful sculpture garden at West Down House this week.
We're going to be working on our own sculptures in school this summer and this was the perfect place to go for inspiration !
  • Dartmoor Training 2014

    Sun 08 Jun 2014
Our Year Six children are currently spending a lot of their time on Dartmoor preparing for our annual "Ten Tors Challenge".
As well as walking fourteen miles this week we've also been testing our map reading and navigation skills so that we're ready for our walking and camping challenge in July.
  • Sculpture Winners

    Fri 06 Jun 2014
Bradworthy Art Festival Goose Sculpture Competition.

Well done to Year Four for their “bark” covered goose which won the overall public vote for the best goose on display.

Years Five and Six also had great success winning their age group’s competition with their “tin can lid” goose.
