  • Holsworthy Rugby 2015

    Mon 09 Mar 2015

We took nearly forty children to play in a tag rugby festival his week.

They were all from Years Five and Six and we think that it's wonderful that so many children want to be involved in sport - obviously we aren't all going to turn into World class rugby players but there's ne reason why we can't all have a go.

As a result of this competition our better players have qualified to pay in an area competiton which will take place in Torrington after the Easter break.

  • Devon Hockey Finals 2015

    Mon 09 Mar 2015

We had a grat day out at the County Hockey Finals last week.

They were held in Torbay this year as a part of the Devon Winter Games.
Unfortunately we weren't able to qualify from our group (where we won one match but lost the others, two of them narrowly by a single goal) but everyone did there very best and it was a great achievement qualifying in the first place.

Two years ago we came close to winning when we were runners-up in the county finals so we're looking forward to having another go at winnning the title next year.

  • Red Nose 2015

    Sun 08 Mar 2015
We raised £ 230 for Comic Relief this year.

As well as a non-uniform day which involved lots of "funny faces" we also had a cake sale.
Lots of people brought in cakes to sell and as well as this the chidren in Year Six made loads of cakes and biscuits in school.

We also had a silly dance competition which was a lot of fun.
  • Gymnastics Nationals 2015

    Sun 08 Mar 2015
Our gymnastics "trio team" qualified for the national finals in Stoke for the second year running this March.
It was another amazing experience for everyone involved, and a real credit to the huge amount of work that goes on in gymnastics in school. These three children are obviously at the top of our gymnastics pile, however the real achievement is in the huge number of children who work to develop their skills each week.
One indication of this is in the sevemty children that we're entering in the North Devon competition this year - which is getting on for half the school.
  • KS1 Football - Spring 2015

    Fri 06 Mar 2015

We took over twenty children from Years One and Two over to Holsworthy College this week to take part in a football festival and even though it poured with rain we had a fantastic time playing with children from other local schools.

We're all really hoping that this sort of event will take place a lot more often.

  • Force Show

    Fri 06 Mar 2015
We had a brek from our "Red Nose Day" fund raising to visit the planetarium which was visiting Holsworthy College.

This year's show was based on force which was perfect because we've been studying this in school. It was a great way of reinforcing the things we've been learning about and a lot of fun.
  • First Aid

    Thu 05 Mar 2015
Years Five and Six spent the day with St John's Ambulance this week where we learnt loads of skills that might save someon'e life one day.

We found out about DR ABC -
Which means Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation.

We talked about what should be in a first aid kit and practiced puttng each other in the recovery position. We also learnt what to do if someone is choking and practiced putting on bandages.

If someone's arm is bleeding and you raise their arm this will help because the heart finds it more difficult to pump blood upwards. We proved this by putting one arm by our side and one arm in the air.
The high hand went white because of a lack of blood and the low arm went purple because blood could flow easily.
This is what we're doing in the photo.

We had a great time learning some really important skills.
  • Gymnastics 2015

    Thu 05 Mar 2015

As is usually the case at this time of the year we are heavily involved in gymnastics competitions, and it’s great to be able to report that our children are enjoying a lot of success.

Two weeks ago we took four teams down to Exeter for the Devon Floor and Vault Finals and we’re delighted to be able to tell you that all of our teams won medals.

We had teams in both under-nine and under-eleven competitions and we achieved two silver and two bronze medals.

Last weekend we took teams to the South West Regional Finals which were held in Bideford this year. Our under-eleven girls teams put on an amazing performance to finish in fourth and fifth places – missing out on a bronze medal by only 0.1 points in a team total of over 100.

Isaac won an individual silver medal in the under-eleven boys’ competition which is especially impressive when you realise that he’s only seven years old and still in Year Two.

In addition to all of this our Trio Team have qualified for the National Finals again which means that we’re off to Stoke this weekend to compete against school teams from across Britain.

As well as all of this success it is also wonderful to see so many children taking part each week.

It’s amazing to be able to report that we’ve entered fourteen teams (and over seventy children) in the North Devon Competition in Barnstaple next weekend.

    Congratulations to the overall winners:

    Year Six - Maisy

  • Climbing Festival

    Tue 03 Mar 2015

We took part in a climbing festival at the Magic Wood Climbing Wall this week.
There were over forty children taking part from Devon and Cornwall and it gave us a great opportunity to test our skills and get to know some climbers from other schools.

As well as a session of free climbing and bouldering we also had the chance to work with some experts in three workshops.
These workshops included bouldering skills, lead climbing, film making, speed climbing and a great session about the technology and science of climbing where we dropped rocks on helmets.

There was a speed climbing competition where Marlo and Eloise from Year Five did really well to reach the final.
Marlo produced an amazing final climb, reaching the top of a fifteen metre route in under thirty seconds, and finishing in third position.

In addition to this Blythe, Dylan and Maisy also received prizes for their work during the day.
