Day Five.
The perfect way to end an amazing week in London was a visit to Thorpe Park on the way home.
Amongst other things we got soaking wet on the Tidal wave, were terrified by Saw, and hurtled from 0 to 80 mph to a height of over 200 feet on Stealth.
The only thing that stopped us was the closing of the park.
We were even back ten minutes early at 11.50pm.
I've got to say how incredibly proud of all of the children w all were.
London is a challenging environment at the best of times - let alone in a Heat Wave !
The children were amazing.
There energy levels were incredible and it was amazing to see the way that they threw themselves in to everything that we did - even later in the week when everyone must have been tired.
The children's behaviour was quite simply outstanding and they were an absolute pleasure to be away with.
It made us all feel incredibly proud to be away with such a motivated, mature and independent group and from all of the comments that we received during the week it is certain that they made a real impact.
I'd like to share these comments from an e-mail from the Youth Hostel's manager with you :
"The group have just left this morning and I think they will be pretty exhausted by the time they get home! They had action packed days and with the heat that we have been having they have done very well.
I wanted to also let you know how polite they all were, the staff commented about this numerous times, they were a delight to have stay with us.
I hope that the group arrive home safely and that you all have a lovely summer break."
After lunch we had a tour of St Paul's.
We lay on our backs to look at the beautiful mosaics on the ceiling through binoculars and elected a new Bishop !
We went up the dome and whispered to each other in the Whispering Gallery - it really did work !
As you can see the view from the top was amazing.
We're heading out ice skating now so you'll have to check back later to see some more photos - probably much later !
Wicked was amazing !
It was so good that no one fell asleep - and in the past someone has always nodded off at some point !!!
There's no photos of the show because we weren't allowed.
We're safely back in the hostel and heading for sleep.
Thanks for all the comments this evening.
Check back tomorrow for the latest photos.
Day Three
Our first stop was the Houses of Parliament where we were able to compare the way our own Student Parliament works to the real thing.
Check the photo carefully because there's certain to be a future Prime Minister in there somewhere.
We had lunch outside the Tate Modern after walking "The Queens Walk" on the South-bank.
It was amazing to see the actors rehearsing on stage in Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
We spent an hour with one of the actors in a workshop which was based on Romeo and Juliet.
We finished the day at the British Museum and we're back at the Hostel now having tea.
Everyone is very excited because this evening we're off to the Theatre to see "Wicked".
If you've just read this please leave a comment because the children are loving reading them.
More up-dates later.
It's nearly midnight and everyone is sleeping soundly - which is hardly surprising as we've had an amazing fourteen hour day traveling across the city !!!
It's got to be said that the children are looking tired but we're having a fantastic time, packing in as much as we possibly can and it really is a pleasure to be away with everyone.
The day started with Dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum followed by a walking tour of central London and a guided tour of Westminster Abbey.
We then traveled on the river down to Greenwich where we visited the Planetarium.
After a quick tea in the hostel we went bowling and then in to town to see the lights in Piccadilly Circus and down on the Embankment.
It's and early start tomorrow with breakfast at 7.00am so I'm going to say goodnight !
Thanks for all the comments.
There will be more up-dates tomorrow.
Day Two.
We've all had a great nights sleep - really it's true !!
As you can see we're enjoying breakfast before we head off in to the city.
We'll make another unpdate when we get back this evening.
As promised here are some more photos.
As you can see we're having a great time in glorious sunshine
(I bet we won't be calling the sun glorious by Thursday !).
We've been on the London Eye, and walked up Whitehall an across Horse Guard's parade to Trafalgar Square where we visited the National Gallery.
We've had our first taste of the Underground although and it's got to be said that the "Tube Surfing" needs a lot of work !!
We saw Despicable Me 2 at the cinema which was great.
It's 11.40pm and, believe it or not, everyone is asleep.
There will be more photos tomorrow.
Please leave lots of messages.
As you can see we've made it safely to London and are on the London Eye.
Since then we've also visited the National Gallery and the Cinema.
Everyone is having a great time however we've been having technical difficulties and have only just managed to get on the internet.
It looks like we've solved the problem though so we'll try and put a few more photos on later.
Please leave messages !
