  • Survival Day !!!

    Fri 22 May 2015

On Wednesday 20th May , Class 5 went to Julian’s farm to learn all about Survival Skills and take part in a survival day . Our survivalist was called Roland Jones .We were split into 2 groups and the 1st group went in the morning and the 2nd group went in the afternoon .We travelled in the minibuses to the farm where we were met by Jenny.  Andrew led us off to where we were going to do the survival stuff .

Then it was time to do some surviving!!!!!!!

Roly ( a short name for Roland) was down there with a camo shelter up, and with a toilet.   First Roly asked us what we needed to survive then he showed us lots of things to use to light a fire: a battery, flint and steel, magnifying glass, and wood. Then he talked to us about food and let some people eat locusts and mealworms for some food and to taste some of the food you would have to eat if you were stranded on an island and struggling to survive. Then he made a mealworms omelette for us to try – some of us were brave, and some ate just the omelette!!

After that Jenny had fetched some water from the river and had boiled it over the fire so we could try it.   We tried it then Roly explained that it tasted a bit different to the other because lots of oxygen was sucked into the water that made it taste different.

Finally when we got our ration packs we cooked our main meals in a special bag with a sachet of something in that helped it warm up and cook. When we cooked them and we were allowed to eat them. We poured them into a bowl and ate some if you didn’t like it you could pour it into a plastic bag and which was the bin and you can eat what ever is in the box like energy drinks and biscuits and lots more.

Then we said goodbye and thank you to Roly and then we walked back to the minibuses and went back to school . We had to leave the rest of the army ration packs at school so we could use them in a lesson. Then it was the end of the survival day and we all had lots and lots of fun with Roly!

  • London 2015

    Fri 22 May 2015

    Day Two

We'e managed to grab a few minutes between coming in, tea and going bowling to update the web-site.
As you can see the children are leaving messages so please reply !

Had a great day out and as you can see we've been working hard to develop our "photo-bombing" and "tube-surfing" skills !!!

In addition to this we've had a great time at Parliament (unfortunately no MP in sight but still a great visit), Westminster Abbey, on the river between Westminster and Greenwich, and at the Planetarium.

After bowling tonight we're off to find some street performers at Picadilly Circus before collapsing unconscious into our beds

We'll put some more photos on later.

  • Sailing 2015

    Thu 21 May 2015

Our year Six children get the opportunity to go sailing on The Tamar Lakes during the Summer Term and these photos were taken at their first session this May.

The club is heavily subsidised by the school so that each of the five sessions that every child is offered costs only £5, and this means that over twenty children are taking part which is fantastic.

Sailing is only one of the water-sports that we offer in school - our children also have the opportunity to surf, kayak and go wake-boarding each year.

  • London 2015

    Thu 21 May 2015

As you can see we survived the traffic on the M4 ( very busy !!! ) and we're safely in London.

Moving the cases on the underground was "a piece of cake" ) I'm not being sarcastic it really was straight forward ! ) and having left the cases behind we had time for a late lunch underneath the London Eye.

We've had a fantatic time on the London Eye, walking through central London and touring the National Gallery.
The industrial action meant we had to do our own tour which was great because we got to see the painting we wanted to see.

We're back in the histel now and just about to have tea before heading out to the IMAX.

We'll try and put a few more photos on line later.
Please leave lots of messages !!!

    Thu 21 May 2015

It's just gone mid-night and we're safely back at the hostel after a "terrifying" time at the IMAX watching Jurassic World.
Hopefully we won't come across any dinosaurs on the underground this week -
other than us adults that is !!

    Thanks for all the comments.
    Keep leaving them !

We'll post some more photos and comments tomorrow so make sure you check back .

  • Devon County Show 2015

    Thu 14 May 2015

We spent the Day at the Devon County Show and had a brilliant time.

We were invited to come down so that our choir, brass band and rock group could perform and we're hoping to be able to get some video clips on line very soon so that you can see what an amazing event this was.

Once our performance was over we went off to explore the show and as you can see from these photos we had a great time.

  • Planetarium 2015

    Thu 14 May 2015
This is Year Three posing for a photograph outside the planetarium which visited us in school recently - it was a brilliant experience !
  • Shebbear Rally Winners 2015

    Tue 12 May 2015

It’s great to be able to report that at the end of last half term, while most of us were “otherwise” occupied with interviews for new teachers, our Under Ten’s were out at the football festival which takes place annually at Shebbear College.

We had a brilliant afternoon, winning several matches very narrowly, including a 2 – 1 victory against Langtree and a 1 – 0 win against Halwill, to reach the final which was played against Kingsley School.

This was another really close affair which we finally won by a score of 1 – 0.
This is our first tournament win for a couple of years so we're obviously delighted !!

  • VE Day

    Fri 08 May 2015

It was wonderful to welcome so many people in school last Friday when we celebrated and remembered the end of the Second World War in Europe on VE Day.

Thank you to our kitchen staff for their hard work in putting on a “street party” in our school hall for our children, and to our Parish Council for a donation of £50 which helped us to offer the party food free of charge to all of our children.

In the afternoon we served cream teas, including scones made by children in Year Six, to our visitors while our brass band played in the background.

It was great that our children got the chance to mingle and chat with our guests, especially with those who had memories of the War, because it’s really important for young people to hear about the experiences that people have had in the past.

Our choir performed some war time songs and “Green Fields of France” and at 3.00pm Ruby played an incredibly moving version of The Last Post before we observed a to minutes silence.

It really was a wonderful afternoon.

  • Area Football Finals 2015

    Thu 07 May 2015

Our Girls' Team and our A-Team both qualified for the area football finals, which were held at Barnstaple Football Club, this year.

Both teams won a few matches, and lost a few too, to finish third in their groups - so unfortunately there were no medals this year.

As you can see we still had a brilliant time !
